How to tell the difference between overconsumption and collections?

So I'm autistic and have special interests (duh brain), and I was doing my daily hobby of holding my mp3 players (bc I love them and they need to know that). And I was thinking about how when I'm older I want a collections of mp3 players for my kids and me to use, which then got me thinking about weather or not I participate in overconsumption.

Like I do think about all of my purchase for ages before hand but I also spend a lot of money on material things, like I have 2 copies of Percy Jackson and the Olympians (one og print and the other og hardcover) and I want to collect more copies. Is that over consumption?

Where is the line genuinely? If i'm being honest i'm starting to stress myself out.

your intentions seems very pure and objective -for your childrens or to enjoy it when you get the time to look back-. i would say that overcunsumption should be line-drawed when it really affects your financial situations and it is more for the quantity than its quality. me as you i would ask for a friend to check if theres too much or if its proportional with your desires. sometimes the look of a third can helps more than we may think.

I'd say overconsumption is buying just because its trendy and sooner or later you just stop using it or throw it away. collecting on the other hand has way more thought behind it you're buying it because you like it and you will take care and keep it for a long time

For me overconsumption focuses more on trends and to buy that stuff really really quick with no or little thought behind it. Also it's things that you don't actually like that much too. A collection is build more slowly with thought what you want to buy and then maybe also focuses on the detail of the product or the quality. For example I like to collect Emma figurines from PopMart (?) and I don't buy 10 boxes at once, just one and then for like half a year later I buy another series of that. So in my opinion overconsumption is more quantity, collection more quality.

(I'm also not saying Labubus, or stanleys or whatever else doesn't have quality.)
