So I've been like, HYPERFIXATING on Vampire the Masquerade recently, which is basically just vampires in a modern day gothic-punk. It's thanks in huge part to the game Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, released in 2004 by Troika games. In my humble opinion it's like one of the most mall goth things ever made, and I remember playing it for the first time and mentally being like o yeah this is the best fucking thing ever. I played as a Brujah called Sadie and I ended up siding with the Anarchs! Going thru all of the gothic nightclubs and interacting with all of the characters all while hearing nothing but Gothic Metal and Industrial Rock activated a neuron in my brain that I didn't know existed, and I owe my interest in gothic subculture in large part to that game!
So eventually I go down the rabbit of everything VTM related, reading through the V5 sourcebook and even starting (and sadly not finishing) a oneshot with some of my friends! I tried to find out and learn about all the lore possible and like I was having the time of my life. But like, I ultimately felt kinda sad that there weren't rlly any shows or movies that kinda captured the magic of Bloodlines and VtM as a whole.
Come to figure out that a show based on VtM had come out in the 90s, called Kindred the Embraced! I saw it immediately went like o yeah I NEED to watch this, and impulsively bought the DVD and proceded to wait until the fateful day when it arrived. When I got it, I never rlly became this obsessed with a show since I watched Edd Ed n Eddy as a kidLMAO. I would come back to work and the first thing I would do is turn on my TV and DVD player and watch the next episode of the show. Basically like the Vampire tea had me in a CHOKEHOLD.
The show revolves around a wide variety of different characters from all the different clans, with the main protagonists being Julian Luna, the Ventrue primogen (which is like the clan leader of a specific group of kindred) and the Camarilla Price of San Francisco, and a detective guy called Frank who becomes interested in researching reports of so-called Kindred roaming the streets at night. All of the characters in the show are soooooo iconic in their own ways, and all of the subplots involved with them. For example, u had the love affair between Cash, the gangre primogen, and a girl called Sasha, who gets embraced into the Brujah clan and starts a complicated romance between the two because of the strained clan relations between Gangrel and Brujah. Out of all of them though my favorite character HAD to be Lilie, who's the Toreador primogen and like one of the biggest girlbosses I've seen in Vampire media. Stacy Haiduk u deserved to be in every single mall-goth influenced piece of gothic media in the 90s and 2000s OMFG.

Every episode was SOOO good too and had a fun plot that kept me coming back for more and more. My fav had to be "Live Hard, Die Young, And Leave A Good Looking Corpse", which revolves around this rockstar Toreador guy who converted his groupies and eventually led to his final death. I LOVED how it presented that rockstar archetype with him and learning his backstory and why he did why he did. Is he fucked up? duh bitch but like idk that episode left a mark on meSJSJSJSJS.
Okay but like,,,, why did I crashout?? It's simple! THIS SHOW ENDED IN THE BIGGEST CLIFFHANGER EVERRRRRRRRR
I wont spoil anything but the final episode left so manyyy plotpoints unsolved, like for example it introduced a whole new future villain who literally only got 45 minutes to do his thing and a ton of the dynamics between so many of the characters, including one of the main ones, was left unfinished. TBF it wasn't the directors fault, they got done suuuuuper dirty by a combination of low ratings and the ultimely passing of Julian's lead actor, but omg i wish we could've gotten one more episode to like sort things outttt :(
THE WORST PART IS TOO WE HAVE NEVER GOTTEN ANOTHER SHOW LIKE THISSS!!! lestat u might be cool idk I haven't watched BUT UNIVERSE GIVE US ANOTHER VTM SHOWWW OMG
thank you all for coming to my Ted Talk
