to cut to the chase, its because of misogyny. i feel like on social media the shounen harem anime are less likely to get hate, and the people that hate on them are in general a very loud minority of people in comparison to shoujo anime (especially older ones) that feature some sort of age gap relationship between the FL and ML. im not the one to hate on things without an actual reason, and its understandable people would feel uncomfortable with an age gap romance but i noticed that shoujo animanga get more backlash in comparison to shounen for the so-called "problematic" themes they have. it makes me question on how people really view teenage girls.
i feel this is a bit of a reach, but the hatred mostly stems from the fact people have so subconscious belief that girls arent able to distinguish reality from fiction unlike teenage boys. in reality, both harem and age gap romances are just the classical fantasy people have. i mean, of course a teenage boy (assuming hes straight or interested in that type of stuff) would want a harem of pretty girls and a teenage girl some older guy to be with (again, with the same assumption aforementioned).
i would've added more but it would quickly turn into a huge yap session and probably lose the plot of what i wanted to say originally so this is it for now
