Joining a new band…

Hey blog, hope you’re doing well,

Just making a post to talk about this sick new band that I’m in!! The story starts back in 2022-23 when this punky grunge band formed in London. They started to grow up a large-ish following and eventually were able to set off on their first uk tour in oct/nov 2025. But when they set off the bassist at the time REALLY started acting immature as hell and eventually on their Bristol date he just didn’t play and was laying on the floor the whole time. So at the end of the tour they fired him.

A few months later and a friend that was shadowing me at my work told me that the owner of the promotion group for the band playing that night (I work in a music venue) was gonna be there. It turned out that he was friends with this guy and the three of us got talking and it turned out to be the singer of the aforementioned band. 

He was talking about how the bassist had left and they were gonna run some auditions to hire a new one after they had recorded a new collection of singles in the early summer. I subtly joked that I’d be willing to play bass for them but he took it literally and asked to see if I had any videos of me playing bass. He liked them so much he started following me and said he’d be in touch and he even came to a few shows of the band I was already in.

I had almost thought he had forgotten me because a few months more had gone by and he hadn’t followed me up on the audition but while I was on holiday with my family last July he messaged me out the blue to ask if I was still interested. Of course I said yes and we set a date as well as planned to meet at my work then next time I was there. 

About a week later we met at my work as I was doing sound for some bands under his promotion company and we just talked and hung out all evening and I’m so glad I did because we s DEFINITELY got me on his good side. He told me about how once they had gone to record in the summer the guitarist had picked up a really bad ketamine addiction and was taking doses enough to kill in the studio. By that point it was only the singer and drummer left in the band so they had to start looking for a new guitarist too.  But it had worked out as a new sort of “rebranding” for the band.

When the audition day came around and the band had found their guitarist I absolutely smashed it and got in well with the other members of the band so well. They were all so chill and fun to be with, just straight up genuine people. Literally the following day I got a notification on my phone… I had been added to the band’s group chat!! I was so happy. The singer congratulated me and said we should meet for a coffee sometime, so that’s what I’m doing tomorrow XD!!! I’m so happy I made it in and we have a few gigs booked already for the reunion/comeback this November!! I’ll keep you all updated as life continues.
