Learning how to play the guitar

So since i was like 10 i’ve had a really big interest in electric guitars, but i’ve never put much effort into that interest bc they’re really expensive and kinda hard to learn, but lately i’ve been more interested in guitars than normal and i really really want to buy one. the thing is i have an acoustic guitar but bc its not an electric guitar i’ve always been lazy to try and learn how to play it. but yeah should i buy one and ask my friend that plays guitar to teach me? she says that i shouldn’t buy one because ill be spending money and i won’t learn how to play it. but im really invested in learning rn.
