Howdy!
My name is Kona Rewindfella (previously, Spacefella until An decided to throw his hands up when updating his website.) And I like video games, I really like them, so much so that my old SpaceHey page was mostly about games I've been playing and reviewing them. Now, I would continue reviewing games here as well, but, ahh, well, I've found nothing I have been playing this year really warrants or I finished them already and I feel it's a bit misguided to review games from memory. Currently, I've been on a bit of a Pokemon kick. Which is pretty surprising to me, for the longest time, the last time I really put any amount of time into the series was 4 or 5 years ago, I think I was just about to/just finished high school when one of my friends lended me a copy of Pokemon Shield, and I played and stopped after 2 hours. I did not find it fun. About this time I finished Pokemon X which was fine and I finished a lot of Pokemon Sun before the dialogue was way too overbearing to continue playing. But sometime last year, I finished Pokemon FireRed, Emerald and Colosseum. I enjoyed these much more than Shield, X and Sun, but I just kinda waved it off as "Decent for babby's first JRPG" (minus Colosseum, fuck that game is hard lmao.) But earlier this year, I've picked up Brilliant Diamond on a whim, and despite the generally negative reception of the game, I've had fun with it. and then things started snowballing, I finished Legends ZA and that was great, easily my favourite game I've finished this year and I've played plenty of good stuff this year (I finished the Mother trilogy, Dragon Quest VI, The Legend of Zelda Oracle games, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Alloy Rangers, just to name a couple.) and then afterwards I finished Pokopia and that topped Legends ZA for me. I then played a couple other entries, Pokemon Violet I enjoyed a decent amount, Pokemon HeartGold I also liked though not as much as Emerald personally, and most recently, I finished Pokemon Sword and The Isle of Armor DLC and I came away from the game with a much more positive outlook.
Now, you might be reading this and going "Kona, that's great but what does this have to deal with Pokemon Black?" Well, dear reader, first of all, have some patience, jesus christ. Secondly, I have dropped Pokemon Black a couple times already, not that i didn't enjoy it, but moreso I get distracted by other games. So this blog series(?) I plan on doing is going to be detailing my journey through Unova. Once a week (hopefully), I'll post a new blog entry chronicling through Pokemon Black, giving insight to how I feel towards the game, probably make a few bad jokes along the way, and doing the most Sacrilegious thing of them all...
Actually reading the dialogue in a Pokemon game (shivers)
Let's get some basic info out the way:
1. "Why Black?" I chose black simply because it was the version I had when I was a kid. Unfortunately, the battery in my cartridge is fried but I remember getting up to the Elite Four and stopping there because I couldn't beat them with my Emboar. Funnily enough, Gen V is the only gen in the series (to my knowledge) to have scaling EXP, making it way harder to overlevel one of your mons and beat the game with your starter. Not that I knew when I was a kid back then :P
2. "Are you going to be doing (Insert name here) challenge?" No, I've done Nuzlockes before on other games, but this is going to be a pretty casual playthrough. Generally speaking, I like sticking to mons introduced in that generation, but considering that Black/White it's only new mons before the post game, I won't need to be worrying about this. I'll be nicknaming all of my mons I plan on using and I don't plan on metagaming, I'll just be looking at a list of pokemon introduced this generation and picking out the ones I like the most regardless of their viability.
3. "How do you plan on taking screenshots?" Don't tell GameFreak but I plan on sailing the seven seas for this one... I'm using a NTEVO rom and playing on MelonDS
Anyways, Here are the rankings
Honestly, I really like Gen V's collection, there's some meh ones, but for the most part, I like a lot of these ones. Anyways, I'll be using a Snivy starter, if anyone has suggestions for names, let me know in the replies and I look forward to posting more soon. Bye for now!
