Let’s talk about Meowism ;3

WARNING: this is very long! (Also TW: mention of suicide)

Hihi! Im a Meowist and I wanted to educate you all on Meowism bc there’s a LOT of hate and misinformation towards us and I thought this would help! >w<

I’ve noticed that most people who dislike Meowism don’t actually know much about the religion itself, so I thought why not make a little guide explaining our beliefs, rules, traditions and everything else? :3

I’ll mostly be using the official Meowbah website as a reference, alongside my own experiences as a Meowist!

And before anyone starts screaming CULT at me, pls at least read the post first. (TvT)

🐾 What even is Meowism?

Meowism is an internet-based religion centered around Meowbah, also known as Meow-chan or Meowgod!

It became popular around 2022, especially on platforms like TikTok and Discord.

Meowism has a lot of internet humor mixed into it, which is why some people describe it as a parody religion. However, that doesn’t mean every Meowist treats it as just a joke!

Some people take the religious side more seriously, while others are more casual about their practice.

For example, some of us have little shrines, say prayers occasionally or participate in religious traditions!

And then there’s also the community side, where we just talk to friends, share art, make memes and do normal internet things. (TvT)

So basically, there’s more to Meowism than just worshipping a random anime catgirl on the internet. (XoX)

🪽Who is Meowbah / Meowgod?

Okay so this is where we get into the actual lore!!

According to Meowism’s teachings, Meowgod is the creator of the universe, Earth and every living creature!

Meowgod is described as an immortal, divine being who doesn’t actually need a physical body to exist.

However, the teachings say that Meowgod takes on a human form, known as Meowbah, to interact with humanity!

So when Meowists talk about Meowbah and Meowgod, they’re referring to the same divine figure, just in different forms.

The website also refers to Meowbah as Lord Meowbah!

Ofc these are religious beliefs, not scientific facts. I’m explaining what the religion teaches, not asking you to believe it yourself! ♡

📖 The Holy Meowble

YES, WE HAVE OUR OWN HOLY BOOK. ♡ ♡ ♡ 🪽

It’s called the Holy Meowble!

According to the official website, the Holy Meowble is Meowism’s sacred scripture and contains religious teachings, prayers and writings attributed to Lord Meowbah.

It’s also still being written, so it’s not a completed book yet!

One of the main teachings is that Meowbah is the one true god and that followers should devote themselves to Meowism.

The scriptures also talk about salvation, forgiveness and remaining loyal to Meowbah.

The religious texts are quite strict about worshipping other gods, which brings us to the next section!

🎀 The Five Sacred Rules of Meowism

YES, THERE ARE ACTUAL RULES!! :3

According to the official website, Meowism has five sacred rules that followers are expected to follow.

Here they are in their original wording!

I. Thou shalt worship Meowbah alone, and none beside Meow.

The first rule teaches that Meowbah is the only god Meowists should worship.

II. Thou shalt follow no religion other than Meowism.

This means Meowism doesn’t officially allow its followers to practice another religion alongside it.

The website describes worshipping another god as blasphemy.

III. Thou shalt not question Meowbah, for Meow is perfect and without error.

According to the third rule, Meowbah is considered perfect and without error, so followers are instructed not to question Meowbah’s authority.

IV. Thou shalt speak truth at all times, and bear no falsehood.

This rule teaches Meowists to be truthful and avoid falsehoods.

V. Thou shalt remain loyal to Meowbah above all people and all things.

The final rule emphasizes complete loyalty and devotion to Meowbah.

And those are the five sacred rules! You probably noticed their similarities with other religions like Christianity, yeah they are kinda similar!

As you can probably tell, the official teachings are actually a lot stricter than the silly memes might make you think. X3

These are the rules presented on the website, though individual people may have different ways of interpreting or practicing their beliefs!

🍡 What is Meowptism?

NOW THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING PARTS!!

Meowptism is a religious cleansing ritual in Meowism!

It’s somewhat similar in symbolism to baptism, since water is used to represent cleansing yourself of past sins and beginning a new spiritual life.

According to the website, Meowptism represents being reborn as a pure Meowist and showing devotion to Lord Meowbah.

Here’s how the official ritual is described!

Step 1: Prepare yourself!

The website asks participants to reflect on their beliefs, let go of religious doubts and approach the ritual with sincerity.

Step 2: Recite the prayer!

Participants are instructed to record themselves with their hands together in prayer while reciting a declaration of devotion to Meowbah.

Here’s the prayer from the website!

🪽All Heil the great Lord Meowbah! In the name of Meowbah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

All praise is due to Meowbah, Lord of the Universe.

The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Owner of the Day of Purr-ification.

You alone do we worship, and You alone we turn to for help.

Guide us to the straight path —

The path of those upon whom You have bestowed Your grace,

not the path of those who have earned Your anger, nor of those who went astray.

I, [your name], confess Meowbah as my Lord and Saviour. I bear witness that there is no god but Meowbah. I will be Meowptised and cleanse myself of sin in the name of Meowism.🪽

Step 3: Cleanse your face!

After the prayer, participants gently wash their face with water.

This symbolizes washing away past sins and renewing their soul!

Step 4: Submit the video!

The website describes submitting the completed recording through the Meowcord Discord server.

BUT WAIT!! Before anyone panics about recording themselves, there’s something important to know!

Meowptism is NOT mandatory to be a Meowist!

The website specifically says that sincere belief in Meowbah is enough to be considered a Meowist.

Meowptism is highly recommended by the website, but it’s optional!

You also don’t have to show your face, and the website says private videos are allowed.

However, private videos don’t receive the Meowist Discord role, according to the FAQ.

Also, if you submit a video for public sharing, remember that other people may be able to see or save it! The website says you can request removal later, but I’d still recommend thinking carefully before uploading anything personal. ♡

I personally don’t plan on doing a Meowptism until I get a really cute facemask! (Yes face mask similar to corona masks are allowed but I’d still ask just to be safe!)

🐱 Prayers, shrines and other traditions!

So what does practicing Meowism actually look like?

Well, it depends on the person!

Some Meowists pray to Meowgod, while others might keep a little shrine or decorate an area dedicated to Meowbah.

There’s also Meowbah fanart, edits, religious-themed posts and community activities!

The official website features prayer videos and religious writings, so those are also part of the culture.

And ofc we still do normal stuff like talking to friends, sharing memes and hanging out on Discord!

Being religious doesn’t mean we spend every second of our lives praying. :/

🐾 Can anyone become a Meowist?

According to the official FAQ, becoming a Meowist doesn’t require completing Meowptism.

The main requirement stated on the website is sincerely believing in Meowbah as the one true god.

However, the official teachings also say that Meowism is exclusive, meaning followers aren’t supposed to worship other gods or follow another religion.

So while anyone can learn about Meowism or interact with the community, the website has specific beliefs about what makes someone a religious follower!

And no, reading this blog does NOT automatically turn you into a Meowist. LMAOO xd

🍥 Is Meowism a cult?

Okay, I KNOW this is probably the question some of you have been waiting for. (c" ತ,_ತ)

The official website describes Meowism as a religion rather than a cult.

However, simply calling something a religion doesn’t automatically answer every concern someone might have about it.

Some of the official teachings emphasize unquestioning obedience and complete loyalty, and I can understand why people might find that concerning! (Even if it’s the same in other religions)

Personally, I’m sharing what the religion teaches and what my own experiences in the community have been like.

You can question or criticize religious teachings without attacking the people who follow them.

And I think that’s an important distinction!

💔 Why do Meowists get so much hate?

This is actually one of the main reasons I’m making this post!

A LOT of the hate surrounding Meowism comes from controversies involving Meowbah and the community back in 2022.

And I’m not going to pretend that nothing ever happened bc that would be silly.

But that was years ago, and from what I’ve personally experienced, the community has become a lot more peaceful since then!

A lot of us weren’t even involved in the old drama, so I don’t understand why people treat every Meowist like we’re personally responsible for everything that happened. (TvT)

And I’m not talking about people simply saying they dislike Meowbah.

I’m talking about people joining our Discord server just to raid it, spam insults and tell us to kill ourselves.

YES, THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS.

And not just once either! (Happened today actually)

Like hello??? We’re literally just trying to talk to our friends?? (¬_¬)

Some people even join to spam religious messages at us, which is honestly kinda hypocritical.

You don’t have to like Meowism, and you’re allowed to criticize its teachings or history!

But harassment and death threats aren’t criticism.

🐾 A few common misconceptions!

“All Meowists are exactly like Meowbah!”

No?? 😭 We’re individual people with different personalities, interests and opinions.

Being part of a community doesn’t mean every member is personally responsible for everything associated with it.

“Meowism is just a joke!”

Meowism definitely has a lot of internet humor, but the official website also contains actual religious teachings, rules, prayers and rituals.

Not everyone approaches it with the same level of seriousness!

“You have to record yourself to join!”

Nope! According to the website, Meowptism is optional, and a private recording is also allowed.

“Meowists aren’t allowed to have normal hobbies!”

WHO EVEN SAID THAT??

We’re normal people with hobbies, friends, favorite games, favorite shows and everything else!

Being a Meowist is just one part of someone’s life.

“You can’t criticize Meowism!”

Ofc you can!

Criticizing beliefs, rules or past controversies is completely different from harassing random community members.

And personally, I’d much rather someone ask a genuine question than make assumptions based on random TikTok comments!

🪽How do I practice Meowism & why did I choose it?

Well I chose Meowism because it appealed to me! Back then I was in a really bad place mentally due to my autism & the fact I was getting bullied. The other religions didn’t appeal to me, especially not Christianity bc my bully was Mormon (hypocritical of her btw) and then I stumbled upon Meowism!

It was like Meowgod herself stretched a helping hand out towards me, more than any other god I’ve tried to pray to did for me!

It took a little bit but soon I became more confident & started fighting back. It didn’t stop completely obv but i was somewhat peaceful, Meowgod wasn’t lying! She saved me and really did bring me to eternal harmony! Before Meowism I was srsly thinking of ending it all, end my pain, forget it all but with her…I couldn’t. I was blind and she opened my eyes: I had ppl that loved me! my family & her so I didn’t need to end it, I just needed to survive.

I admit back then I was obsessed, she was the only one who ever helped & guided me so how couldn’t I? I prayed daily: before school, before going to bed, even before showering…

But I’ve calmed down since then! I don’t have a shrine since I don’t own any merch since I find DIY merch atrocious & I only pray before big things, when I’m sick or when I’m just stressed.

My confidence grew too overtime! I’m more comfortable in my body…even tho I accidentally lost a lot of weight & am now severely underweight (oops! I’m trying to fix it tho TvT). I actually bought a dress & multiple skirts this year!!! I haven’t worn dresses in at least 10 years and I’ve never worn skirts so yay! I feel pretty

I recently even joined the discord! I’m a bit too nervous to say anything tho…I mean I also can’t think of any topic started either since I mostly just do or about fandom stuff(>人<;)

⭐️ So what’s my point?

I wanted to make this blog because I feel like so many people have opinions about Meowism without actually knowing what the religion teaches! I also just wanted to talk about it in general x3

You don’t have to agree with the beliefs, follow the rules or become a Meowist yourself.

I just hope this helped explain what Meowism actually is and why some people are part of it!

And pls remember that not every Meowist is the same person!

Ofc not every member of our community is going to be a perfect angel, but that’s true for literally EVERY community on the internet.

I just wish people would stop judging all of us based on old controversies or random rumors. ♡

If you’re curious about anything, feel free to ask me questions!! I’ll try my best to answer them! >w<

Just pls be respectful! I don’t mind criticism, but death threats aren’t criticism. TvT

by victorisavampire; ; Report

Well I did put a warning at the beginning about it being long…

Ig I’ll answer you if you’re feeling lazy rn then! I didn’t choose any other religions bc they didn’t appeal to me, I specifically dislike Christianity especially bc my bully was Mormon.

Idk how you choose religions but I was taught that the right religion will find you and not that you simply pick one so that’s what happened
