lets talk tinkerbell!

recently, my baby has been really into disney movies, so i put on the tinkerbell movies for her. i noticed a couple things about these movies that i wanted to speak on and id like to know what yall think!

firstly, id like to say that these were some of my favorite movies growing up and none of what im about to say is to spread any hate or negativity surrounding these particular movies. these are just my interpretations. now, lets get into it!

from the beginning, tinkerbell is introduced as a new fairy, and her job is to be a tinker. she is unhappy about this because she desperately wants to go to the mainland with the rest of the fairies, however tinkers are not allowed to go. this leads her to convince her fairy friends to teach her their jobs. as the movie goes on, she constantly messes up and creates more work for the rest of the fairies and, as a last resort, she tries to gather thistles. her actions cause a huge mess and push back everyones preparations for spring.

all the fairies begin to scold tinkerbell, and the queen comes to see the damage. they acknowledge they may not be able to recover from this and while the queen talks to tinkerbell, she barely gets into any trouble. which seems so weird to me because she just ruined everyones hard work that took months because she wanted to prove shes worthy enough to go to the mainland. the whole ordeal is extremely selfish and for her to not get much of a punishment is kind of crazy to me.

eventually, tinkerbell does fix her mistake, and everything turns out to be okay. while I think its great that she owned up to her mistakes and fixed it, im annoyed that she still got to go to the mainland to deliver a toy. she constantly broke the rules and put everyone in danger yet got rewarded just because she fixed something that was her original mistake. now, i understand that the whole point of the movie is accepting who you are, but it still feels like they are always rewarding her bad behavior. additionally, vidia, the fairy who sent tinkerbell to gather the thistles, gets more of a punishment for sending tinkerbell on that quest than tinkerbell herself! maybe im thinking too much into it, but i dont want my child thinking that bad behavior will be rewarded as long as you fix it. hte message of owning up to and fixing mistakes is great, but i personally do not believe that you should get rewarded for something you caused to begin with.

and this is also showcased in the tinkerbell secret of the wings movie! tinkerbell is clearly told that warm fairies are prohibited to go into the winter area and vice versa, but this does not stop her from going anyway. however, once again, her blatant negligence and disobedience for the law is rewarded by all the fairies coming together at the end and realizing that as long as they use proper precautions, they can cross the border. while the first movie i mentioned did have a theme they were trying to communicate, acceptance and loving yourself for who you are, i cant seem to find one within secret of the wings. it just seems like its communicating, "disobey and you could make change!" i can definitely see where they were going in that aspect because all change is caused by someone taking a stand, but i think they could have done a better job at showing it. instead of going behind everyones back and being sneaky, she should have come forward with her ideas and showed the queen that they could cross into the winter land as long as they properly protected themselves.

as a mother, i do not want to promote this type of behavior to my child. but these are just my thoughts, what do yall think?
