I don't know how to start, but I want friends who are just as weird as me, so that's why I'll explain why Sayumi Michishige is the best J-pop idol. 

Well, Sayumi Michishige debuted in 2003 in the 6th generation of Morning Musume at 13-14 years old. From the beginning, she made it clear that she simply couldn't sing at all, but she had such an idol-like personality and charisma that's why they put her in Morning Musume... what else? Well, "the most narcissistic idol in J-pop," the QUEEN of autotune, the one who was lucky if she had more than 10 seconds of lines in the songs, but they were the most iconic. She didn't get along with the other member who also couldn't sing, Koharu XD and... the best leader of Morning Musume 

She's the best idol because she proved that you don't have to be perfect to be an idol who left a huge mark on the industry. The best leader Morning Musume could have had; she managed to get album sales during the "Colorful Era" to surpass 100,000 copies, something they hadn't done in years. She was known for keeping all the members as close as possible, leading them very well, even more so considering the significant age difference between them (after Reina's departure) and It should also be considered that she adopted that "dumb" narcissistic girl persona so that Morning Musume wouldn't be forgotten during the "Platinum Era." She knew she could attract attention that way and sacrificed herself for the group. And when Sayumi finally graduated, she was the first leader involved in choosing the new members of Morning Musume... Did she learn to sing? No, but that doesn't diminish the fact that she's a queen and a diva 

 I feel like Sayumi wasn't allowed to shine enough. What I'm about to say might sound controversial, but in my opinion, she's always been treated like Reina's shadow. I have nothing against Reina; she's a diva, one of the best members Morning Musume could have had in its almost 30-year history. But it's still sad to see how the group was always centered around her. After Sayumi graduated in 2014, she pursued a solo career as a singer and retired from public life in August 2025... we will always remember you in our hearts, Queen of Autotune <3
