Magick Metal

When I was 15 or so I started feeling very talkative about serious topics such as the state of the nation, modes of production and the government. Since my friends were not really into that at that time, and I felt such a extreme euphoric feeling to talk to others and explore these topics, I secluded myself in the social media app "Discord" (terrible decision xD).

On Discord, I've talked to hundreds of people, raging from every square of the polcomp (i hate this measure of categorising ideologies but whatev :P), and there was a certain group of people that introduced me to a certain kind of music; insecure young teenage boys whose only way of feeling good is hating on other people for their biological characteristics (yes authright white supremacists, eugh).

They listened to the same type of music (talk abt originality xD), either white girl music, eurodance, black metal or magick metal. I have listened all those type of music except the last one, and it intrigued me a lot. If you do not know what it is, it is basically a type of metal that touches on themes like esotericism that heavily relies on black metal vocals, the use of organs or synths and takes heavy inspirations on 70s and 80s hard rock. (Some people say that it is not a real sub-genre, but let's call it such just cuz it is way easier to type than "this type of music" xD).

Some magick metal bands are: Edelweiss, Black Magick SS, Assassination and Delightful Dekadenss (actually my fave). The ones I mostly encountered these people listening was Edelweiss and BMSS (pretty clear why, they use tons of national-socialist imagery blegh). I did my own listening to those two bands and honestly, they were pretty good (dont judge me, i love shitty music), my main problem was their constant use of national-socialism for their aesthetic and that was the main thing that made me stop listening to them and search for other bands. I have seen plenty of people defending them and saying that they are not actually NS and that they do it for the shock value, but, come on, Edelweiss literally has songs whose names are "White Flower Power", "Gestaposcope" and stuff like that. Even if it is all LARP for shock value, it is not okay to normalise all these hate symbols popularised by a country which killed around 11 million people (maybe even more).

That is my main problem with the whole magick metal scene. Most bands of this genre use NS symbols and most of their fans are raging far-righters. My heart ached with the music though, the whole sound of it pleased me, so I had to uncover other bands that sounded similar but weren't screaming at my face "look hahah national socialist symbol hahah". So far I only listen to Delightful Dekadenss (they did a song against NS yay!! :D) and Tarot. I wish it was not so normalised in some metal sub-genres all these harmful ideologies :(
