⋆。°✩ MOVIE REVIEW: Antiporno (2016) ✩°。⋆

2 / 5 ★★☆☆☆

- Anti-Rec (TW: rape mention)

"To celebrate the 45th anniversary of its iconic roman porno (romantic pornography) era, Japan's Nikkatsu Studio launched the "Roman Porno Reboot" project. The original cycle began in November 1971 as a survival tactic for the studio, tasking directors with creating low-budget feature films that strictly required a sex scene every 10 minutes."

Antiporno is the 2nd of 5 movies, by 5 directors tasked with the reboot project.

This movie is described as "she constantly questions the rationale of sex and the notion of liberty in modern Japanese society." Though it's rather surface level stuff, as it is blaringly obvious this was directed by a man, who would have guessed.

It seems like the extent this movie reaches is simply "I have a complicated relationship with sex because my parents are hypocrites and I'm still coping with the loss of my sister."

As well as the very lukewarm "No Woman in this nation can master freedom."

As mentioned before, Antiporno is the 2nd in this "Roman Porno Reboot" project" and uhhh it definitely shows. Starting strong 6 mins in with a sex scene, 15 mins for a freaky petplay knee-licking scene (excessive moaning of course). 23 mins in and there's a "rape" scene, in which in just these minutes so far we have 2 toilet/puke scenes. 37 mins in is another sex scene, 50 mins is another woman-on-woman scene. 59 mins in is a "sex" (read: grinding) scene. 1 hour and 1 min is is a parent sex scene, then of course 10 mins later is another.

It's just made increasingly more clear as the movie goes on that in its goal to explore sexual identity and how personal and complicated it can be for women, it just falls rather flat as the man directing this movie just has... zero clue what it's like.

It's just... not that great and not as deep of a think-piece as it clearly wants to be.

Kudos: 2
