MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE SANTX CONCERT RECAP!

hello hello, my friends! i haven't made a blog in a while, so i think now's the perfect time! i got home yesterday evening from my weekend in san antonio to see MCR, aka one of the greatest bands to ever do iiiiit ٩(^ᗜ^ )و ´-

yeah we left home friday morning and drove a couple hours down south, it was pretty neat! i'd tell you what we did there but... i mean, we pretty much only got around to the concert, lol. didn't have much time for sight-seeing, since we arrived friday evening and left yesterday morning. but that's okay with me, 'cause the whole point of going was for the concert, anyway!

before i get into the show itself, i wanted to talk about the absolute hellish experience i had trying to grab merchandise. i arrived at the venue's general admission gates at eight in the morning and waited until twelve in the afternoon. it was so disorganized there, i don't know why it took staff until the last minute to get us into two incredibly long lines. that pushed me so far back from the entrance, which feels a little unfair, but i didn't throw a fit about it because i knew i'd eventually reach the front. when we were all finally let through, fans stationed at other gates in different parts of the venue were also being let in at the same time, so you see a bunch of people rushing in from all different directions towards a singular merch booth, it was crazy. i get in line for merch finally, and again, it's long as hell, and i've got a bit to go until i reach the front. at this point, i was like, "whatever, it's fucking hot as hell outside and i can barely stand it, so i'm just going to grab the poster, that's really all i need. that's the goal." dude... there were people in line in front of me who had only been at the venue for half an hour. again, felt unfair, but i sucked it up.

so, y'know heatstroke? yeah, heatstroke, the thing that happens to you when your body's overheating in the scorching texas sun. that happened to me for the first time of my life in that mcr merch line. i was SO fucking close to the front of the merch booth, but was pulled out by staff when they noticed i was getting pale. maybe a little gross to mention this, but it was to the point i was puking. not fun. and, of course, after all that, i didn't even get the poster. not a single piece of merch. i wait four hours and get heatstroke all for nothing. fuck, i remember being so devastated, i cried in the hotel bathroom ૮(˶ㅠ︿ㅠ)ა

BUT NOT ALL HOPE WAS LOST! i went back to the venue later on in the day with my mother war cosplay on and pins i was going to hand out. we had floor seats, so we went through the floor seating gate instead of the general admission one. guys... they had a merch booth in that other entrance the entire time. i was SO fucking hyped to see that poster up on the wall, and lo and behold, after about half an hour of waiting in a line, i eventually did manage to grab it. it's the most beautiful thing i've ever seen slapped onto a sheet of paper, not even kidding. LOOK!

RAAAAAAH, I LOVE YOU, MARIANNE!!! (˶˃ ᗜ ˂˶)

okay, NOW we can talk about the actual concert.

best. experience. of my fucking life.

before the show, everyone was getting hyped with the mars volta, and we were all doing huge crowd waves and shit, blinking flash lights at each other pretending to know morse code and communicate with fans across the stadium. i always found that kind of shit so cute— we're all just one big ball of excitement and pure joy, waiting for a band that changed our lives to take the stage.

take the stage they did. actually, no, they didn't take the stage, they fucking owned it. ran it like the navy. i'm talking pyrotechnics, beheadings, blood dripping out of gerard way's mouth, exploding clowns. none of this is an exaggeration, by the way, this is literally just what happens on the a stage as a part of the Long Live the Black Parade lore. granted, i saw them last year in arlington, so what they did at saturday night's show was very similar, but something incredibly special happened this time. the grand immortal dictator, an antagonist in the lore, was killed, and gerard replaced him by a unanimous fan voting. FUCKING INCREDIBLE! it's a shame his little puppet friend was set on fire, though :[ oh yeah, and we also held up green lights during house of wolves and purple lights during cancer with these little sheets of paper we found on our seats, it was very pretty! did the same thing at the show last year, but with blue paper, and for different songs. i've come to the realization that gerard actually really likes that type of stuff, he looks like a little kid in awe when he looks up at them, and i think it's the sweetest thing. he's also incredibly funny and eccentric, and commands the crowd from time to time, like telling us to put our hands up and shit like that.

there was another special thing that happened during the concert, but on the b stage. by the way, if you're unfamiliar with this tour, there are two stages: one to play the entirety of their album The Black Parade, with all the story lore and shit, while the other is reserved for songs they pick out of their entire discography, out of character, just being themselves. i'm currently talking about the latter, which was actually insanely close to us, since we were in section c. anyways, in between songs, gerard was showing gratitude towards the band, the crew, the special guest of the evening that "knighted" the characters on the a stage (king diamond), the mars volta, dough mckean, so on and so forth. after giving all his thanks, gerard said, "you guys kept us alive for so long, you guys deserve another album." i lost my shit, other fans were losing their shit, everyone was losing their shit. the prophecy is true. mcr5 is underway. also, crazy how he said we were the ones that kept the band alive for so long, when it's been the opposite for many. i hear it all the time; "mcr is the reason why i'm still alive," and all that. a beautiful coincidence where it's an endless cycle of love, support and survival between band and fans.

so, yeah! that was my experience at mcr. i loved it to bits, and if i could, i'd thank everyone affiliated with the show who made it possible and fantastic. my chem has changed my brain chemistry once again, and i could not be happier.

in case anyone gives a fuck, here's the rest of the merch i got while there (the first photo was a bunch of fanmade merch received through trading) ((the only thing missing is a t-shirt that i wore yesterday, since it's in the wash. it's just a wearable version of the poster so you're not missing much, lol))
