My dad and his emo-phobia

So, my dad isn’t very old because my parents were young when they had me. He was in highschool around the same time that what we think of when we think of “emos” was starting to get popular. However, he was always more of a nu metal bro, so he was a part of the crowd who though emos were just gay punk posers.

Fast forward to a few months ago.

I’m in the car with my dad and I plug my phone into the aux and I play Silverstein. He calls it gay and tells me to turn it off. I put on Asking Alexandria and he does the same thing. I put on MCR and he like snaps and tells me to put on some real music. I say that I just don’t think he likes emos and he says:

 “I like emos. I love Type O Negative.”

what? That’s more goth than emo. So I tell him this and he says “the lyrics are emo.”

BECAUSE ITS FUCKING GOTH. GOTH LYRICS ARE LIKE JUST AS EDGY AS EMO LYRICS. The craziest part? Whenever he tells me to puts some music on again, I put on Brokencyde and he said “fucking finally.”

So I think that he has like a hatred for emos that he just didn’t know he had. Like yk how some people have internalized homophobia? I think he has like internalized emo-phobia in the sense that he doesn’t think he hates emos, but because of high school, he hates everything associated with them. He’s fine with scene and goth stuff, but hates emo stuff in particular.
