My honest thoughts on Zero Day (2003) (wow first blog)

Title. 

I loved this movie, honestly, one of my favourite films by far. The way the lead-up to zero day presents them as "normal teens" is so cinematic & surreal, especially if you know what they're going to do. I'm going to section this blog off into, like, different sub-topics, per se.

Cal 

Cal is the "likeable character". I feel like the reason people perceive him as innocent and manipulated is because he acts like a normal teen, despite his underlying plan with Andre. Even as an introverted person himself, he is far more social in comparison to Andre. My opinion is that this makes him come off as he often does; innocent and manipulated, as I stated before. However, he is not like that, really. He is just as guilty as Andre; they both contributed to zero day voluntarily.

Andre

In almost every scene with Andre that I can recall at the moment, it connects back to zero day in some way. There isn't really anything with him involved (that I can remember as I type this) that doesn't tie back to their plans. This is possibly a reason why people perceive him as manipulating Cal; his main focus is zero day, so it seems all-consuming to his character. Whereas, with Cal, he has other things in his life, even if he is also focused heavily on zero day.

Overall Review

I think this film is very well structured, very realistic, and highly unsettling. Although I wasn't extremely scared, due to the lack of graphic violence (which I'm not keen on watching, fyi), it was a disconcerting watch. I took a break halfway through, because I got busy, so maybe that's why I wasn't too scared, since I didn't watch it all at once. However, I do recommend this film.

P.S, I do not, in the slightest condone violence of any kind. Nor do I condone Cal & Andre's actions.
