Hello, so I finally finished Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodline 2 and now I can finally spill my opinion. This entry is gonna be probably pretty long, so get some tea and cookies, and enjoy this (in case if you plan to actually read the whole thing).
Huge warning, that I will spoil some things, so if you plan to play this game in the future, I suggest you to avoid this blog entry. Idk what I'm gonna spoil, but I prefer to let you know about that.
I also wasn't sure how I suppose to write this, but i guess I'll just keep writting what's on my mind and change the colors of something that I like in GREEN, something I disliked in RED and something in YELLOW that didn't disappoint me or make me happy about it but got my attention. And I'll also compare this game with the first one, cuz it has a Bloodline name in it lol

So lets start with Nosferatu... If you're nosferatu lover I have bad news for you, you can't play as nosferatu in this game. Yeah, I was shocked too when they didn't let me to choose it. If you didn't play the first Bloodline, basically before you even START the game, they let you to choose which clan you want to play, in the second game this option doesn't exist (well, it does, but after the prologue). Like idk what happened, but for some reason the development studio decided to get rid of them at all and force us to play as human looking vampire. Yes, we see nosferatu in this game (only 2) BUT... they look like humans who had some kind of weird disease... Fr, they don't look like real nosferatu at all AND they can be on the streets too and no one is gonna be scared of them AND they don't need to hide in sewerage like in the first place 😢
The OST wasn't that bad. I kinda liked it. They also added some tracks from the first game (Open Season, Downtown Alternative Version). Rik also did make new songs and they are AMAZING. They still have this goth vibe that tracks from the first Bloodline game has BUT, there are some tracks like from the main menu and... it's so Crime Cleaner... Like literally when I first heard this track, I wasn't looking on the screen and for a second I thought I opened the wrong game lol

The other thing I really liked was that you can change your protagonist Appearance. Like hair, makeup, add some accessories. In the first bloodline game you couldn't do that. The other thing I really liked was that you can change your protagonist . Like hair, makeup, add some accessories. The only thing you kinda could change was the protagonist clothes, but still, we only could have like 3 more (excluding the one she/he was already wearing at the start of the game). In the second game you have a collection of the different clothes BUT you can't get them by paying like in the first game... to have them you need to UNLOCK them by UNLOCKING a specific skills and we gonna talk about this right now...
The skills are so terrible in this game. In the first game you'd have the huge ass list with the different skills and abilities. You got xp and you could use it one everything you wanted... int eh second Bloodline game, you can't do that. It doesn't exist. If I'm not mistaken you have like 42 abilities you can get BUT you can get them only if you have a specific among of the specific blood (💀). There are like 3 types of blood you can get, it was something like love/seduction, anger and the chill one?! If you got like for example, 100 - 0 - 300 you'd need to find a specific person who can give you specific abilities and only then get that ability (by using xp ofc). Idk who come up with this shitty idea but they did a bad job. I literally didn't get anything except for the rock one or hand that would grab the enemy and I could attack him or drink blood...
Combat is also horrible in this game. I don't even want to explain, it's just bad believe me lol
Side quests is another thing I didn't like. Like basically you do the same thing over and over again - kill someone, get something and yes, before you say "but you do the same thing in the first bloodline too", yes, you do the same thing too BUT they have story, there something interesting happens. In the second game it feels so empty, like it's like if you needed to go get some water over and over again. It's so simple and you just don't get exciting about it anymore. AND in every side you literally need to kill everyone to be able to finish the quest. In the first game you can skip that part (if it's part of the quest) and still be able to finish the side quest, here you can't. The game literally forces you to kill everyone...
And now I'm gonna talk about the final part of this review - THE STORY!
So, at first I hated the story, but then I kind liked it a lil but not to much to have it in the green color. While playing this game and after finishing it I realized that this game is more like Vampire the Masquerade - Swansong than Bloodline and I'll try my best to explain why I think that way.
If you didn't know and didn't play, Swansong is another 3d game from the Masquerade universe that was released in 2022. I played this game, I replay this game even now from time to time and I really like it.
Basically Swansong is detective game; you play with 3 different vampires who has different missions but the same goal - understand what happened. It's not an action game like Bloodline 1 & 2. You just walk around trying to find evidence while trying not to make mistakes in the dialogues and not to die. Even tho most of the people didn't like it I really enjoyed it 😝
Bloodline 2 is basically a detective game with some fighting and shooting. The first game wasn't like that (in my opinion), it was more just a newbie vampire trying to understand his new life and where to go while doing some missions for big guys. Th the second game (SPOILERS) you wake up as ancient vampire who has other vampire (his soul) stuck inside our vampire's head AND now we are in the detective mode trying to please everyone while doing the detective job. And the thing is even the game forces you to fight everyone, the most part of it is talking. You need to be good at talking if you don't want to make your life difficult and get the information you need to solve the case (who's the guy inside you head, the symbol on your hand and who's the city's killer).
If this game was Swansong 2 in its name, I think more people would like it instead of hating it, since they were expecting something close to the first Bloodline level, because if I was comparing the game to the first one while playing, I'm pretty sure other people did that too.
I'm gonna replay Bloodline 2 in the future? Idk, I don't think so, but still it was a nice journey 😊
If you actually did read all that and still want to play this game, I suggest you to do that. Because it's my opinion, so you definitely need to play it by yourself to actually know if you like it or not.
