My review of buddy(2026)

(there will be a few spoilers so please watch the movie before reading)

I went to see this movie with my friends and was expecting to get scared at least a couple times. Suffice to say, that did not happen. Most of the plot felt like filler, and a lot of the main events that were supposed to be shocking and terrifying felt predictable. The only thing that surprised me is when Wade died, as I expected him to survive alongside the main girl. Having the diamond city be fake isn't surprising but the fact it's one of the only main side plots made it feel rather random. There are other ways to make the viewer feel as though there is no way to escape besides getting rid of important side plots. The plot felt rushed and jumbled to the point I think it would have been better as a short film. Having every other character die besides the MC just made me convinced she was going to die too. I didn't root for any of the characters because of the death. I also really wish they had used the fact it was a children's show to its advantage and included more scenes in the real world. The only thing I really liked about the movie was the costumes and set design - it all looked like a children's show set, with the abnormal lighting and plastic-looking houses. All in all, I'd rate this movie a 4, just because it's an enjoyable watch with friends.
