My take on the "dumb phone" movement

I personally am a part of this movement BUT!!! There are two sides to it:

1.) I LOVE IT!!! I spent hundreds of dollars on two BlackBerry Q10s and they dont work anymore so theyre sitting in my drawer but third times a charm, I got a nokia 2780 with a mint mobile SIM card and it works AMAZING!!!

It is my main device and a MAJOR upgrade from my iphone 16 pro max though it sounds like the opposite. The process of research and buying took over a year but in june i found the flip phone :)

Its so good for me and I love how tiny, cute and digital detoxing it is, downloading music on it now! I think it would be good for everyone to switch because of how toxic modern technology is

BUTTTTT

2.) The movement that you hear on social media was created by a small group who geniunely wants to have a digital detox, and to spread the word. HOWEVER thats not how social media works.

Digital detox became a trend and a new consumer product, having a cute flip phone or ipod or old fashioned tech became an "aesthetic" and instead of geniunely using these devices to detox, its just another consumer trend that people follow, they use the device for a week and then go back to their iphone, because it keeps up with the modern times and has the addicting social media on it.

If you want to be a part of this movement, you need to go all in, and its not easy at all. You will deal with malfunctions, many calls with tech companies if you dont know what youre doing, teasing from your friends, completely transfering contacts and photos and phone numbers, people not adjusting to the change well, but you have to keep going because its worth it in the end for your mind and your wallet!!! (and its cute)

Most FAQs:

"Is that a flip phone?!?!?!"

"Why don't you use your REAL phone?"

"Performative ahhh"

"lets see how long this lasts"

"dont you think an iphone is better?"

Good luck!!!
