My X-files Colonist Theories (LONG)

This will probably be the longest blog post I ever make, so prepare yourself. This is only something you're going to understand if you have seen the x files so im not explaining the background on things, and also Im totally siding with the aliens in this blogpost (surprise surprise XD) so ya HERE WE GO

So, I think that the colonists are hiding things and there is more going on than just "we are evil and want the planet"

And I'm going to explain to you the why all of this cuz there are multiple things, starting with:

Emotions

Colonists are not emotionless, and let me explain to you why cuz there are SO MANY REASONS that show they aren't. 

For one, they made humans. Humans and colonists are like sibling species, where the colonists were kinda the baseline who created them. Now explain this to me: if the colonists were emotionless, then how did humans turn out SO emotional? if the colonists 1: didn't have emotions and 2: thought they were a hindrance, they would not have allowed that trait to be programmed into humans, meaning it is highly likely they too had emotions. 

Second, their very actions in the show directly show they have emotions. Here's the biggest one: Ambition. If you are truly emotionless, you do not put so much effort into conquering a planet already inhabited by another highly intelligent species YOU CREATED. That's just not how things work. its the same reason humans go to war with other humans. its all about ambition and desire, which are very powerful and real emotions. Furthermore, its unlikely that the colonists would have become so technologically advanced if they did not have emotions. Ambition and desire are a thing but curiosity also is. If the colonists were not curious about what is in space and what they could build they wouldnt have done any of the things they did to be where they are today, including creating humans.

and this is kinda my favorite reason, but colonists actually seem to display attachment and nostalgia. This is due to the fact that out of all the very likely viable planets they could have gone to, they chose Earth. Why? cuz they feel nostalgia and attachment to it. Remember, they used to live here. This was THEIR planet, so clearly, them choosing to put all this effort towards invading the planet and resettling there is not arbitrary, it is very intentional and linked specifically to Earth and their history with it. They clearly have some form of attachment to Earth, or else they would not do all this and possibly risk their species to invade the planet with a buncha humans

And going off the assumption that they have emotions, there is another thing that could be a very real thing going on: disappointment. Think about it, you made this species similar to yourself, left for like a billion years, and then you come back and they're the worst species ever. They dont like you, are scared of you, and want nothing more than to dissect you and use you for their own gain. Like OF COURSE the colonists wanna wipe humans out; they would be nothing but destructive to the colonists, and there is no way to coexist.

And I'm going to explain the simple reason why everyone in the show and fandom seems to think the colonists are emotionless, and it's quite simple: Colonists are not humans. they did not evolve to display emotions through tone, body language, or speech. And why would they? They are a telepathic species; they have the easiest way to display their emotions and be understood by each other, so why would they evolve other ways to display them? of course humans think they're emotionless cuz humans are looking for HUMAN INDICATIONS of emotion and ignoring that they are aliens.

And now, I shall explain the second part of the theory:

The colonists are a dying race.

Now this relies a lot on headcanons but they are all canonically viable. So ya, the colonists seem like this huge scary force, but I don't think its ever stated that there are THAT many of them. Furthermore, their behavior suggests they are in trouble.

lets look at their reproduction, shall we? Long-clawed aliens. So in the show, we are told this is just how they reproduce, but I don't believe that, and here is why: is it not biologically plausible. Think about it: Colonists didn't ALWAYS have hosts to gestate aliens in, so how did they reproduce? Answer: Like humans. Well, similarly. My theory is that they have a hybrid reproductive system where they give birth similar to humans but are more reptilian in terms of biology, and are a single sex species (as in, all have both male and female sexual organs and all can do what both males and females do). And this is another reason why I believe they are a dying species, cuz this reproductive cycle shown in the show SCREAMS desperation

The theory is that they were able to develop the black oil to do this because they have become unable to reproduce naturally, and this brings me to the reasoning for the long-clawed aliens' behavior

So going off what I said about how colonists would normally be born, a colonist baby would be born similar to a human. Small, juvenile, think like a baby-sized version of the long claws. They still have the rougher reptilian skin and molt later on in life but they are born and raised small and grow up and mature naturally among their own kind with parental figures to guide them.

Now look at the long claws in the series. Their behavior makes so much sense. Think about it: you are basically forced into the world with no parental guidance and with a full-grown body, and surrounded by a bunch of weird creatures whose thoughts you can hear, but when YOU call out mentally, are met with radio silence. And on top of that, half the time the humans are trying to kill you. OF COURSE your going to act the way they do. Their behavior is basically a giant predatory temper tantrum cuz they are scared and confused. And this is why, during S6, EP1, the long-clawed alien in that doesn't attack Gibson, cuz Gibson is able to communicate back.

And so back to the main plot, you may be wondering, "if all that's true why wouldn't the colonists just ask to coexist?"

Answer: They did

Roswell. The colonists went to Earth, and what were they met with? Immediate unprovoked violence. They did absolutely nothing but exist, yet they were shot down and killed and dissected. So ya, OF COURSE the colonists ruled "being honest and working together" off the table. Humans showed them that no matter what, they are untrustworthy and are likely to kill their species if they get a chance for their own gain.

And now im ALSO going to argue for why colonists are not a singular mind like everyone thinks and have individuality. SO ya, the black oil SEEMS like a hive mind, but I think its deeper than just that.

What I think the black oil ACTUALLY is

From a biological standpoint, it would not make sense for a species to evolve in a way where all of them were controlled by a single mind yet they have multiple individual bodies and brains. That is counterproductive and very resource-expensive evolutionarily speaking. And i know people make arguments like the black oil being a seperate organism who conquered the colonists, but im going to rebutle that too cuz it is shown numerous times that the colonists have black oil as their natural circulatory fluid. This is shown with long claws, specifically meaning it can't be a seperate organism since it is naturally a part of their biology.

So then what is it and why does it affect humans the way it does?

Here is my Theory: I think for the colonists, it is sorta like an internet connection. Rather than controlling every individual colonist, it acts as a way to connect them to a collective where they can communicate and share ideas mentally from any distance. This explains why they are able to work so methodically and APPEAR to be a single unit cuz in a way, they are. And THEN they use their telepathy, which is like Gibson's (basically mutual mind reading) for close-contact communication with each other.

And as for black oil and humans: i think that its a compatibility issue. Like cuz humans lack the same brain infrastructure as colonists, the black oil can't connect them the way it can with colonists so it defaults to full override and control. I do believe this is used intentionally but that is the core reason it happens. And going off this theory, I also believe that cuz of this, if Gibson were to be infected by the black oil he WOULDNT be controlled by it and would instead be connected like a colonist due to his alien DNA being active

Now for a slightly unrelated thing, I AM GOING TO EXPLAIN WHY COLONISTS AND SHAPESHIFTERS ARE NOT THE SAME SPECIES

like im not really sure WHY people think this, but they simply are not. For one, as stated earlier, it is shown countless times that the Colonists have black oil for their circulatory fluid while the shapeshifting aliens clearly have the green acidic fluid. They are not the same

In addition, it IS stated that the shapeshifting aliens are a seperate species who were conquered by the colonists, not that they are the same species or a subspecies. there is no biological connection. event tho yes the shapeshifters do appear as greys during the series (notably in the episode with Exely) that is not the same alien as the colonists. In fact, the colonists themselves are not greys. All the times we have seen COLONISTS in the series, they always have a very light, almost translucent skin color, while the shapeshifters in their "true forms" are ACTUALLY grey aliens and have the typical features. Both have distinctly different physical forms.

HOWEVER i am aware of why there is confusion. The series commonly struggles with continuity and appearance for aliens so its fair why this would be confusing

And now this is just going to be some other things I wanna ramble and point out about the x files and issues in continuity

- The faceless rebels. So the series tells us the reason that the faceless rebels sewed their faces shut was to prevent infection from the black oil but this makes no sense. For one, if they are shapeshifters, why actually mutilate themselves when they could just shift their form to get rid of their eyes and mouth and nose temporarily? And even then, here is what makes ABSOLUTELY no sense: The black oil DOES NOT NEED a hole to get into a human. In Fight the Future, we literally see at the very beginning that the black oil can get under your skin and move through you even if there is no hole to get in through. So why would the faceless rebels do this if it wouldn't even help protect them against the oil? and furthermore, they are shapeshifting aliens! Their true form doesn't look like a human for all we know, they could be a blob of acidic goo, so how would that even help them unless they were in specifically a human shift?

- The Mothership found in Fight the Future. WHERE DOES IT GO? this is never explained in the series, and it is never explained what happened to all those baby aliens and IT MAKES ME MAD. I wanna know what happened man!

- WHAT. HAPPENED. TO. THE REACTOR ALIEN. This is the name given to the long clawed alien in S6 EP1, but like seriously wtf happened to it? All we got was the end of the episode where it molts into its mature form and then NOTHING. Like for all we know it and gibson could have ran away together and become best friends like I WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENED

- Why do people call the black oil a virus. W-H-Y. It is not a virus. That is an indisputable fact. A virus and the black oil are 100% completely different things. if we are going to classify the black oil as anything, it should be a parasite, which is why it annoys me so much every time i hear a character call it a virus CUZ IT IS NOT A FUCKING VIRUS

- I know why they say this in the show and why the fandom also does but like the Colonists are not technically extraterrestrials. They are terrestrial. They evolved on Earth and simply left so they are technically a terrestrial species

- I dont remember if I said this or not but I think the colonists are a pseudo-reptilian type species. They clearly are not mammals as like reptiles they would die in the cold cuz they cannot produce their own body heat and in their juvenile form have distinctly reptilian skin.

- Since we all know colonists are not Reticulans, since they originate from earth I actually think Reticulans are a seperate alien species from the colonists
