Perfection Groups Archive

Perfection groups were groups of MySpace emos and scenesters who were considered the "most beautiful" or those who served as the "epitome" of scene fashion.

(spoiler alert: they weren't necessarily, lol)

These individuals would put the tags of the group (usually a couple letters or phrases in brackets) before/after their names or in their profiles. 

Because a lot of people would get rejected, this caused a lot of scenesters to make their own perfection groups, and it just resulted in a TON of groups that have now been lost to time.

Trains were like perfection groups, but you had to have a minimum of >insert number< friends to join (the minimum varied across trains). Trains served as a way to quickly increase your friend count along with also kinda getting urself out there.

all of those go against friendrewind ToS and frankly, its fucking weird regardless of site rules. however, here are some graphics that I have taken from their page that are SFW and comply with the ToS.

Trends

there were a lot of trends that made their ways through the scene community on MySpace. Some were pretty cool, others were well... quite silly.

On MySpace, there was a page that read:

What is a trademark?

A trademark is word, phrase, or design that is used by an individual, business organization, or other legal entity to identify that the products or services to consumers with which the trademark appears originate from a unique source, and to distinguish its products or services from those of other entities. A trademark is typically a name, word, phrase, logo, symbol, design, image, or a combination of these elements.  A trademark owner has the right, among other things, to prevent unauthorized use of that trademark that would confuse consumers about source or origin.

Scenesters cared about being original and not having any "fakes" or people "stealing" their ideas and names. Therefore, they felt that by adding these symbols with actual legal shit behind it, they had leverage over others who took inspiration from or outright copied them.

Some ppl thought they could even sue others over it... lmao

It was trendy to be randum and unique. If there was a band, word, whatever that spoke to you, you put it next to your name in brackets. double brackets if you were EXTRA original... xD

bands had dates in their profiles to denote their next tour date.

for normal profiles, could be for a lot of reasons, but here were the most common reasons:

- the date that they got together with a romantic partner

- the number of days theyve been with a romantic partner

- date they saw a band

This was a way to market yourself. again a bunch of scenesters wouldve be considered friend collectors today. They were MySpace FAMOUS because they added as many people as they possibly could; friend count mattered if you wanted to break through into perfection groups, trains, friend groups, and even off-platform fame like on Stickam and Blogger.

Common Slang/Behavious:

W4W: short for "whore for whore", essentially "shoutout for shoutout" in today's terms. if you w4w'd someone, you'd advertise them on ur bulletins or profile or sumth and in return, theyd do the same.

PC4PC / C4C: short for "picture comment for picture comment" or "comment for comment". also used to boost popularity.

It was customary to thank people for adding you regardless of whether u were a part of the scene or not. (i mean. it was self promo too in a way ig)
