Hey everyone! I am trying to set my footing on this platform as a music discusser, I have a blog on my Spacehey where I started doing this, I will post that eventually but right now I wanted to discuss a few new bands that you should check out! For the most part, they all rip from myspace aesthetics, whether it be scene, deathcore, post-hardcore or even lesser known influences like mathgrind or deathgrind. I figured a lot of people here would have shared interests in hardcore bands like myself so I wanted to make a list of underrated bands.
Understand I am only doing a few at a time with these posts, I will try to pump out lists but I can only know so many bands. I would appreciate recommendations if I miss anything! I also do not know these bands personally, annoying disclaimer but if any of these bands end up being horrible people in the future, thats not my fault or something I can control.
1. Anvilchandelier
When I first heard of SeeYouSpaceCowboy in 2021 I was absolutely captivated by their sound. They were everything I wanted from a new band, although I was unaware of most of the bands they were influenced by (I didnt get into sass until about a year ago) I liked (and still appreciate) how much of a breath of fresh air their music was. As they started pumping out singles for their last album Coup De Grace, I was so excited for the album. It was a solid album. Unfortunately, one of the worst weeks for the SYSC community was watching real time Connies frustrations with the band following the DGD tour announcement, she eventually left the band. SYSC got cancelled due to allegations following Connie and her relationship with her ex-girlfriend. It was sad to see SYSC break up.
Through the end of SYSC's career, anvilchandelier was born. It contained ex members of SYSC (Connie isnt in it btw) Their first EP came out in 2025 and is very influenced by aesthetics of early 2000s melodic metalcore. You can hear how the instrumentals carry the identity from early SYSC and takes heavy influence from bands like Poison The Well, Skycamefalling, and Hopesfall. If you're not a fan of a lot of modern metalcore, I would check out this band, its a huge breath of fresh air.
They have currently released two EPs, one being their self titled EP which is full of aggressive vocals and riffs, theres even a feature from Connie (before she was cancelled), as well as a split with A Year Ago Today which is a very good split. Their album covers scream 2001 metalcore just as much as their sound does, yet despite rehashing old ideas, it feels fresh.
2. withpaperwings
Withpaperwings is an interesting band. I was first made aware of their music when they autoplayed as I was listening to 7 angels 7 plagues, and I thought they were a metalcore band from 2001. Their album covers, song titles, riffs, and vocals sound like they were made 25 years ago and unvaulted today because we werent ready for the BANGERS that is Six Thousand Days. The band currently has a demo from 2024 and a EP from 2025. The demo is pretty solid, the vocals are a bit rough, but their first and latest EP is a banger. I promise the first riff of Six Thousand Days will convince you how great this EP is.
3. Ends In Tragedy
Just look at that album cover, peak late 90s metalcore. The same can be said about this and every other band on this list but their music sounds like it was recorded 25 years ago and released today. And much like the other bands on this list, the production and songwriting from this band is absolutely phenomenal. Even the album cover looks like those old angel statue metalcore bands.
The band started releasing music in 2024 and has only improved since they started. Their riffs are so clear descendants from early metalcore with melodic death metal riffs and their vocal performance is crisp. Their most recent split with Dance is phenomenal and has been on my rotation since it came out. Theres a good chance each song from that split will be my top songs this year. Im happy I got to experience the Ends in Tragedy cover of a Parkway Drive song before it was removed.
4. Dance
Dance is a band I'm excited to see grow. You know a band is fire when they drop a cover of Nerdy by Poison The Well and I consider it nearly as good as the original. I get the screaming style isnt for everyone but I really enjoy the vocal performance. Their demo ep from last year is very solid and their split is absolutely iconic. Im noticing a pattern of a lot of splits lately, and each of them have been so good!
Dance's most recent release was a split with Ends In Tragedy that came out earlier this year. Phenomenal release, the two bands collaborated together on Saturine Spring and TDFB which are absolutely goated songs, and performed covers independently for the split. Dance covered Nerdy and it was amazing.
5. Balmora
balmora is another band that makes me feel gaslight when I find out that their first release was from 2023 and not 2003. They have been dropping promising singles for an album coming out in an hour that I am going to listen to when it releases. So if you wanna hear them the day their first album comes out, get on it. While making a playlist for historical metalcore bands I accidentally added this band because be so fr and tell me this band doesnt look like its from 1998.
5 is all I have time for today, Like I said, I cant name every band so if I miss any, let me know. also this is just the melodic metalcore revival edition, I have plans for other editions, mathcore, grind, deathcore, post-hardcore. Im also going to post my list from my spacehey account when I get some time. Take care, keep the scene alive!
