A Tough Sunday for Colts Nation 💙🏈
October 11th, 2006
Hey everyone,
Well, today was one of those Sundays that reminds you just how much a football team can get to you. The Indianapolis Colts took on the Pittsburgh Steelers, and unfortunately, we came away with a 34–22 loss.
Jane, my wife, and I were watching the game together, hoping our boys in blue could pull through. We were cheering them on, getting our hopes up, and really wanting to see the Colts bring home the win. When things started going wrong, you could feel the disappointment settling in. By the end of it, Jane and I were both crying over the loss. Maybe some folks won't understand getting that emotional over a football game, but when you care about something, sometimes it just hits you that way. At least we had each other through it.
The game itself had its moments. Spencer Shrader gave Indianapolis a chance by kicking five field goals, including some long ones. Tyler Warren also managed to get into the end zone on a one-yard touchdown run, and for a while, it felt like the Colts might still find a way to turn things around.
But Pittsburgh wasn't making it easy. Jaylen Warren hurt us badly with an 80-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter, and then he broke loose for a 50-yard rushing touchdown in the third. Aaron Rodgers connected with Pat Freiermuth for two touchdowns, too. Every time Indianapolis tried to get back into the game, Pittsburgh seemed to have an answer.
One of the hardest moments was in the fourth quarter. The Colts got down near the goal line, and we had a real opportunity to make things interesting. Instead, the drive stalled, and we had to settle for another field goal. When Pittsburgh scored again later, it became clear that this wasn't going to be our Sunday.
Final score: Steelers 34, Colts 22.
I'm not going to pretend it didn't hurt. Losing stinks, especially when you've spent the afternoon believing your team can pull it off. Seeing Jane upset right alongside me made the whole thing feel even more bittersweet. I wish we could have celebrated together instead, but I suppose being together through the disappointing moments matters just as much as sharing the good ones.
That's something I've been thinking about lately. Life isn't always about getting the ending you wanted. Sometimes it's about who sits beside you when things don't go your way. A football game is only a game in the grand scheme of things, but the memories you make with the people you love are something different altogether.
So here's hoping the Colts shake this one off and come back ready to play next week against Tennessee. I'll still be wearing my blue and white, and I'll still be cheering them on. One loss isn't enough to make me turn my back on my team.
For tonight, I think Jane and I could use a quiet evening, some good music, and a little time to get over this one.
Take care, everyone. Give your loved ones an extra hug, appreciate the little things, and remember that there's always another Sunday around the corner.
Go Colts! For the Shoe! 💙
— Just another Colts fan, trying to keep the faith.
