old garry's mod

i've been getting really into garry's mod lately, because 1. i am working on a machinima project with it, and 2. i've been watching way too much ratlobber for my own sanity. after watching hours of ratlobber and gmod videos from 2006-2013 i felt inspired to make my shiny new copy of garry's mod 13 look like garry's mod 10, so i grabbed a True And Original copy of the game that's just about as old as me for reference and got started.

i tried to get some mods on this ancient version of gmod from gmods.org (amazing site btw) but unfortunately none of them worked. i think the ones that i tried were too new. i didn't end up playing gmod 10 for very long because honestly it's nothing really new. lookin around the graphics were mostly the same, the only big difference is probably ui changes.

now comes the fun comparison part!!! i tinkered around with many mods and eventually got a pretty solid recreation of gmod 10.

you might be thinking, THAT IS NOT VANILLA GM_CONSTRUCT!!! well no it's not, but technically the current gm_construct and gmod 10 construct are completely different maps so i used the old one for all the examples 🤓

as you can tell there isn't really a stark difference between all of them as gmod has stayed relatively the same through the years. it probably does not mean much to YOU but to ME the little things make a big difference. i fucking love that fog.

also, the textures used to be shiny as fuck and i love that too.

some other things i got working were the old hints, old scoreboard, and even the TOYBOX! this cloudbox mod is a gem

the only thing i did not get was the original spawnmenu (which is probably impossible to get) but i didn't really want it anyway because i like my little aero spawnmenu. Unfortunately it decided to stop working when i took a screenshot so it actually looks more like the image above right now. the image below is an older pic.

anyways, i actually wanted to make this blog more about the cloudbox but i already yapped too much about modding my gmod that i think they should be separate. so yea. that is my autismo garrys mod rant. BYE
