Omnom’s Apple Pie Recipe

This is an apple pie recipe inspired by Tree Trunks from Adventure Time! Takes 1-2 hours to make.

For the Pie Crust:

1. 3 cups plain flour

2. Pinch of salt

3. 200g butter

4. 2 large eggs

5. 3-4 tbsp cold water

Instructions:

Cube the butter, then add all the aforementioned ingredients in to a food processor. Mix until the dough is grainy but clumps together.

Flatten it using a rolling pin, shape it into a ball, wrap in cling wrap and then chill in fridge for 60-90 minutes or until you make the pie filling.

For the Apple Pie:

1. 7-8 apples (use varied varieties for complexity)

2. Half cinnamon stick

3. 1 clove

4. 1 star anise

5. 1 lemon zest

6. 3 tbsp cornstarch

7. 115g brown sugar

8. 100g soft butter

9. 1 egg for egg wash

10. Half teaspoon nutmeg powder (optional)

Instructions:

Take the spices and roast them in a pan. Then grind them with a mortar and pestle. Optionally, you could use a premade spice mix or cinnamon powder instead, if you would like to skip this process.

In a large bowl, mix the brown sugar and the spices together.

Peel, core and slice your apples in medium thick wedge slices. Mix your apples with the sugar and spice mix until each apple is evenly coated.

Add the butter in a large pan and let it melt on medium heat. Add your apples and let them cook while mixing consistently to ensure they do not burn. You may cook them in two batches if you like. Cook until soft but still a little firm. Add lemon zest.

Take a large bowl and strainer. Seperate the liquid that cooks out from the apples using the strainer. Add the cornstarch to the liquid and mix. Then add the apples back.

Now arrange your dough in your pie dish. Add your pie filling and make whatever design you like on top. I recommend a lattice shape. Bake it in the oven for 1 hour at 180°C. Serve with cream or ice cream.

Now enjoy your pie like Finn and Jake would! :^)
