Just watched this movie for the first time tonight. legit finished watching it a minute prior to writing this. What a beautiful movie. The ending was such a magical touch to this devastating story. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who is into dark fantasy, escapism, or just wants to see a really good story unfold.
SPOILER:
At first I didn't know what to expect going into this movie. It's been on my radar for over two years and I can't believe it took me until now to watch it. The idea of Ophelia being dragged into this world that she can't comprehend, this world that she didn't ask to be in. It resonates on a deeper level in my soul.
I low key think that her mom was sort of evil lmao. Like did she know that she was married to the most evil man in the entire world.
My favorite part about the whole movie was the fantasy aspect which i'm assuming only existed in her mind. The fact that this girl did not want to be dragged to the middle of nowhere makes sense why she would fall so deep into escapism. Her favorite thing to pass the time was to read these fairy tale books.
The one question that I was left is if Ophelia's fantasies were saving her or if it was only dragging her deeper down the point of no return. If she wasn't so wrapped up in the delusions maybe she would have still been alive?
Also I want to mention that I thought the faun was such an ugly creature. I cannot lie, at first I thought his intentions were very malicious. All that to be said I guess he was just testing to see what kind of person she really was.
Also lets not forget Mercedes, the bad ass woman that tore down the whole operation from the inside out. She was also my favorite character.
I often find myself in the same boat as Ophelia, the constant fantasies, the living in my head and making things out to be more than they actually are.
Anyways, thats it, see ya.
