Phineas Gage was a 25 year old construction worker in 1848.
Unfortunately he suffered a terrible accident where a 4 ft 13 pound metal rod pierced through his left eye and into his brain.
The effects of his accident caused his personality to change from a polite, courteous young man into a rude person with the intellectual capacity of a child according to doctors.
The reason behind this was because the rod impaled his prefrontal cortex, which regulates our emotional and social responses as well as impulse control.
He's a very commonly used case study in modern neuropsychology. :))
