Pigeon Breeding

Like with dogs, cats and many other pet animals, pigeons are subjected to selective breeding. These "fancy pigeons" are bred to have horrifically exaggerated features so they can be put on shows and exhibitions. This is a cruel practice, as it greatly impacts the pigeons' quality of life.

-The African Owl has a practically nonexistent beak, making it impossible to eat or preen. 

-Jacobin pigeons have a large feather arrangement on their head called a muff or cowl that hinders their sight as well as their ability to eat and preen. Additionally, the extra weight from their muff causes strain on the spine.

-Holle Croppers are bred to have an enlarged crop and an extremely curved spine that pushes their head backwards. Both of these features make it difficult to feed, preen, and perform basic natural behaviors. 

-The Saxon Fairy Swallow is one among many pigeon breeds that possess feathered feet. Oversized feathers gather feces and dirt and require extensive cleaning. Without proper care, they can grow infections and experience severe pain when walking.

Pigeons deserve better than to be bred into a life of suffering.
