Question for Christian bros and gros (girl bros...)

Yall have any idea how to read the bible? Not practically how to read it, like, every day. But how do we interpret it when we read it?

I'm more curious of this now because... i was debating with my brother, annd my position was that it's likely animals and all creation are created in the image of God. His point against that was that the Bible doesn't say that, but my point was that it didn't say it's not true, but then he said the Bible says my view isn't true because.. the Bible said one thing is true but not the other making that other thing false. I used to think there was an example of that logic being obviously stupid to everyone but now i can't find it. If i answer this it'll actually make me rethink soteriology and eschatology, so... i care about it right now of course.

And

I was "researching" (mostly watching YouTube videos) about young earth creationism, evolution (as an origination (originated by God..)), and old earth creationism, and there was something about the definition of days, um, the later "a day is like a thousand years for God" verse was brought up... So, i asked myself, "should we define a word in the Bible by all the times it's used in the Bible? Or how it seems to be used in that context of the chapter?" I don't know what this would change in my beliefs other than the age and origin of this earth but... it seems imporrtannt.
