questions about the concept of splitting

hewoo! so i'm pretty curious about the coping mechanism of 'splitting'

Splitting, also called binary thinking, dichotomous thinking, black-and-white thinking, all-or-nothing thinking, or thinking in extremes, is the failure in a person's thinking to bring together the dichotomy of both perceived positive and negative qualities of something into a cohesive, realistic whole.

I mean I have a couple of friends with borderline personality disorders (tho, i think they are not the only ones with this coping mechanism)

I would like to make this post an open space to tell me your experiences with it! either, feeling it or experiencing it from others
