Recent 80s/90s Horror Movies I've Watched + Ratings

πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ–€ In the past month, I've watched over 9 Horror movies/Horror Adjectent movies, most of them older & cult classics from 80s/90s at this point in time due to their rise in popularity over the years (mainly due to Dead Meat & the internet in general.) Soooo I'd thought I'd give my rating of them & a quick short review of them :p Not all of these movies are scary but all of them do have a charm to them that makes them really memorable!

πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ–€ Frankenhooker 1990 (Rating: 4/5)/Review: I thought the acting/writing was absolutely hilarious. The best part is that the plot is ridiculous but the entire tone of the film sells it immensely!

πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ–€ Ice Cream Man 1995 (Rating:3/5)/Short review: The actor (Clint Howard) who played the Ice Cream Man completely made this movie so creepy/silly. It felt like a Disney Channel film with blood & gore.

πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ–€ Chopping Mall 1986 (Rating 3/5)/Short Review: The killer robot security guards for this mall are fucking insane. The practical effects to get them working throughout this movie is really cool despite most (not all) of the characters being rather forgettable.Β

πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ–€ (Rewatch) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974 (Rating: 5/5)/Short Review: This movie is a masterpiece that does an excellent job at making the watcher feel isolated, disturbed, and engrossed in the chaotic hellscape that the characters are put through. Not as gorey as people remember it to be, but the Sawyer family & the final 20 minutes are neverending madness.

πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ–€ (Another rewatch)The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 1985 (Rating: 4/5)/Short Review: Completely different tone compared to the first film, making it a dark humor comedy, but one that surprisingly works. Minus the sub plot Bubba Sawyer liking the lead Final Girl, the movie is a ridiculously fun roller coaster ride from start to finish and I love Chop-Top!

πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ–€ Sleepaway Camp 1983 (Rating: 5/5)/Review: This movie has its flaws, but the (mostly) good acting + the increasing tension among the group of campers (all played by actual kids) makes it a unique film to look back on. It is also among of the most homoerotic/queer 80s horror movie I've ever seen, with the (very regressive & somewhat progressive) fact it gave birth to a fictional trans serial killer who ends up growing into their own fully fleshed out character in future installments???

πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ–€ Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers 1988 (Rating: 4/5)/Review: Another sequel that completely switches up the tone compared to the original to make it a horror comedy. The progression of Angela's character is genuinely one of the best parts about this movie. She actively fully transitioned into living as a girl compared to the first movie of her being forced too, but mainly because she wanted to, and she became her own person because of that! A fully fixed, happy go lucky camp counselor, who kills campers for bad morals, like smoking...or underage drinking...or fornication. What a change!

πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ–€ Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland 1989 (Rating 3/5)/Review: This movie was literally filmed 6 weeks with the same film crew after part 2 & it shows immensely omg πŸ’”. The film doesn't really have plot and is mainly just another movie of Angela killing off really poorly written campers with even worse acting compared to part 2. But, Pamela's role as Angela makes this movie actively watchable, as you can see Angela throughout the film progressively gets more deranged as time goes on. Her moral high ground of killing campers for being bad, starts to slowly switch to her just being actually pissed off at everyone and it's super funny to watch.

πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ–€ Elvira: Mistress of the Dark 1988 (Rating: 5/5)/Review: Elvira from start to finish is actual joyride. It's ridiculous, camp, and it feels like I'm watching a 90 minute drag show with a beautiful horror queen. I've never laughed harder at Elvira pissing off a bunch of old conservatives for just being her true self, and Cassandra Peterson makes this movie a must watch for her performance.
