Retro Social Media Etiquette

I am posting this as a blog and a bulletin because I am not sure the particularly younger crowd (like early twenties) had access to things like Myspace back in the day. If they are only in their early twenties now they may have been too young for things like Myspace back then.

Anyway, word of advice: it's very poor form to immediately jump into the DM's of the folks who have accepted your friend request. The proper time to send a DM to a friend on retro social media is AFTER you have interacted with them either through their blogs, bullentins, or perhaps forums for a little while. And even then, it's a good idea to ask them in one of those areas if it's okay if you can DM them. The reason for this, is that if you immediately jump into the DM's of a new friend, you'll come across as, at best, a self-promoter, or at worst, a scammer.

There's probably more I could add to this post, but I'll leave it up to the commenters to this post. Did I leave anything out?
