hello everypony!!
first blog post!! i finally got the time.
so!! i’ve somehow managed to drag my american long-distance boyfriend across the ocean and into europe. he has officially been exposed to public transportation, an unreasonable amount of walking, and the european interrailing experience (which is basically paying money to develop a personal vendetta against trains).
we are currently in prague and today we decided to do the whole tourist thing. walked around the old town, looked at pretty buildings, pointed at things that looked important, and generally pretended we knew what we were doing. you know how it goes. sometimes you see a building and think wow!! and sometimes you see a building and think wow!!
ANYWAY. somewhere along the way, we stumbled across the museum of torture.
now, i’m not saying i’m easily distracted, BUT apparently all it takes is the promise of historically documented human suffering and suddenly i’m the most motivated tourist alive. we went straight inside. no hesitation. no second thoughts. just two people on a romantic european getaway making the executive decision to go look at medieval torture devices together. isn’t love beautiful?
and honestly?? it was SO interesting.
there is something deeply bizarre about looking at these things in real life. like, you can read about medieval history all you want but standing in front of the actual devices makes you realize that humanity has always been a little bit fucked up.
we spent our time wandering around the museum, looking at the exhibits and taking pictures. some of the stuff was genuinely fascinating, some of it made me wonder what the hell was going through other people‘s heads and all of it gave me a newfound appreciation for being alive in the 21st century. modern problems are still problems, but at least nobody is making me deal with medieval torture equipment before breakfast.
anyway!! i took a bunch of pictures, and since you’re already here, you might as well look at them. consider this your little educational moment of the day. i’m basically a historian now. please direct all future questions about medieval suffering to my business email (i do not have one).
here are some pictures from our little adventure!!
enjoy!
