small essay of how jailbreaking consoles works (to my knowledge)

idk what normal people write blogs about so here is how jailbreaking consoles work to my knowledge, using sources as I'm still learning! :-)

Jailbreaking was essentially coined as a term in the early 2000's by hackers who wanted to run 3rd party apps, 'breaking out of apples ecosystem'

The main appeal of jailbreaking a console is to run CFW (Custom firmware), for example Luma and godmode9 are used on the 3ds to allow full personalisation of the console, and installing games from an sd, as well as running homebrew clients and applications.

Essentially: You bypass restrictions to take advantage of the system.

Effects vary depending on which console, though you can realistically go years without running into these issues!

Software exploits, Firmware versions and physical mods such as soldering directly to the xbox can be done to achieve this.

One example: mail bomb for the wii!

Personally, I love running emulators for old games.

I never understand how people figure out how to jailbreak consoles, sometime they genuinely do the most wacky things, like button combinations.

In conclusion, jailbreaking is the process of bypassing the consoles restrictions and usually installing CFW for personalisation, optimisation, running emulators or software, and more!
