So Long Scarecrow - Scarling Full Review

So long scarecrow is a 13 track  gothic shoegaze album by scarling. This album was honestly a great listen and a lot of the songs stand out so clearly. Honestly even with the slower songs the vibe is done almost perfectly. The only thing holding it back is some of the later songs really don’t fit the vibe. My personal favorite song is definitely bummer it is so good and honestly has the best transition that I’ve heard in a while. My overall rating for this album is 7.8/10 

Hello London - This song starts off with a strong heavily overdriven guitar with sweet and calming vocals from the lead singer. It’s catchy and mesmerizing every part of this song brings you in and it’s honestly such a pretty song. When it comes to the meaning it talks about the way that the environment is being poisoned but it also talks about a sense of identity or at least I think it does. Anyways I found myself rewinding this song multiple times and it’s easily a 8/10 

City noise - This song has such great guitar like it stands out so much in such a good wayyy.  On top of that its a perfect folllow up to hello London. The beginning of the song sets a seen of a person trying to either cheat but failing and ending up going back home to the person they were with already. But then as we go into the chorus it’s like they know that they made a mistake and it’s to big to go back and they just want to change. This song has some amazing soft spoken lyrics and again found myself repeating this song multiple times another 8/10 

Broken record - I love the lil riff at the beginning lowk reminds me of yen I wonder if he took influence from this ! This song is so epic like if Julie would’ve been able to pull of the low energy lyrics like this it would’ve gotten a higher rating. But whoever there guitarist is there so amazing and the vocalist really does know how to work with them. The drums are also pretty soft for shoegaze and I think it adds to the song and album a lot. This is such a great song 8/10

(Northbound On) Cahuenga - This song sound like mourning like I don’t know how to explain it but it sounds like either grief or trauma. The way it goes from being calm to like screaming out of knowhere just makes me feel sad yknow? Honestly one thing I’m seeing out of this album so far is the amount of emotion that they put into the instruments none of the instruments stay stagnant they all have emotion and love out into them. I feel like that’s what a lot of shoegaze misses like it’s not just about making them loud or adding a lot of effects it has to make sense and add to the song. I love this honestly 9/10 

Teenage Party Letdown - this was just an intro into bummer so no rating 

Its so amazing 

Bummer - The way that teenage party letdown goes into bummer is so fuckin epic I literally jumped out my seat. It was like “yo girl” into “meant to be yours” from heathers the musical. It was so good and then it gave bummer rolling momentum that it kept up throughout the whole song and it was epic. Honestly it is a bummer no one went to her party cause I know it was lit. 10/10

Manorexic - ugh ok ik the song has to have variety but I don’t like the slowdown into this song we could have kept the hype momentum for one more song. But I do like the little cut out and like glitches it adds a lot to the song and they sound so appealing to me. But the song is about the singer thinking her partner is tied of her I think or she’s pointing out that he is. It’s a pretty good song but it’s not nothing jaw dropping so 7/10 

In the pretend world - this song is basically a comparison of two worlds and one is like our goals and what we want (pretend world) and then what we have (real world). I like the comparison and the vocals are stronger and the song does work well for the album really well. 7/10

Stapled to the mattress - this was more like a gothic rock vibe then shoegaze in my opinion but it works so well it reminds me of violent vira a lil bit and it works so well and her graceful vocals work so well with it.  Then the instruments sound so great. It feels like a better version of in the pretend world and I’m here for it. 8/10

Like a killer - is a good song but doesn’t really hit the high I got from songs from earlier in the album and like idk this feels more like a pop song then a song that deserves to be on this album. 5/10

Caribou and cake - this song follows the same aproach of Like a killer and again these songs aren’t bad but there really forgettable in my opinion like they don’t belong on this album in my opinion. 5/10 

We are the music makers - This song slaps so much and it has such a great chorus with loud and hype guitar this song is such a great listen brings the album back for me. 8/10 

So long scarecrow - a slow and graceful end it was a resting place to think and understand what you just listened to and if feels like a goodbye to the album . It’s done really well I love the guitar in it. 8/10
