solitaire 1-10

I started this book because I genuinely do enjoy the Heartstopper comics and Alice Oseman's character building. When I initially read the comics, I really liked Tori as a character, shes grim and a pessimist, and it just seemed to resonate with me at the time (which is around 2022 when I was only 16-17). But starting this book genuinely felt like such a chore to me. I decided this would be my next book MONTHS ago, but every time I would pick it up, I would feel bored–which really put me off, especially since this is a book that so many of my other Heartstopper-loving friends adore and told me it would be good. Maybe it's because it's written in first person, or maybe it's because Tori is just a really annoying person who hates absolutely everything so far. No matter what happens, she is so utterly and completely dull about it that this entire book just feels moot. The only thing she's mentioned liking so far is Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice (mentioned twice by the way), which even then she says he's the only thing she likes about the book AND the movie. She doesn't even seem to like her friends that much to care about what goes on with them –which isn't the biggest issue, obviously you can have friends who are nothing alike to you– but when you're constantly ignoring and avoiding them, then what's the point of having those friends? Lastly, her meeting Michael and her "relationship" with him is so annoying every second. If you don't want to talk to him.. girl, just don't talk to him! Anyways, that's my rant on the first 10 chapters; we'll see how I feel when I'm more into it. I usually don't like judging books before I'm at least 25% done, but god, it's such an irritating book to get through.

Kudos: 4
