when i joined spacehey last year, it was already on the verge of collapse. gore/cp spammers were continuing to wreck everything in their midst, the moderation team was small and in tatters and most definitely ill equipped to manage "2.2 million" users. i also noticed that the blog ranking system was broken, and that it was views that mattered, not comments or kudos.
enter lil ol' me, armed only with an advanced understanding of css, some dumb memes and an autorefresh browser extension. that was all it took for me to dominate the spacehey landscape for the span of an entire year. i lost track of the amount of people that mistook me for a site moderator, simply on account of having such a massive stranglehold on the site. coupled with anton's absenteeism, i simply moved my pawn into place on the board and was poised to become the undisputed face of spacehey.
towards the end of last year, another of those spam accounts surfaced: the notorious "hello world" account. some of you will definitely remember this. this was a user that spammed gore and cp across the recent blogs over the span of 12 hours. vasilis was the only active moderator at this time, and he chose to completely disregard user report tickets. instead, he opted to ban those that were submitting the report tickets, and then ban anyone questioning his moderation ethics. what a guy.
when napo was formed at the height of this spacehey moderation drama, i shoehorned my way into the whole thing, effectively becoming napo's second in command. at this point, i used my prominence and influence on spacehey to shift some 5k+ user accounts to napo, via bulletins and using my good ol' tried n tested spamming of the spacehey blogs.
this became a very divisive thing across spacehey, with many avid users rallying to defend spacehey tooth and nail, and napo users (not just myself here) responding to it all with vitriolic outbursts of our own.
now this petty squabbling and bickering back and forth would transform into a rippling effect, creating a giant rift in the oldweb indiespace blogsophere. napo v spacehey was a thing which incited so much backlash from either side that it hasn't stopped to this day. whatever myspace clone you go to, you will see the remnants of it somewhere. it truly is something inescapable.
as for me, i've made a pledge to myself to not bump any more of that crap, simply in the hope that it really does die down once and for all. i'm bored of it now. it had it's 15 minutes, and it's genuinely time to forget it all and move on. but there is no denying the sheer impact of that whole divide and conquer campaign.
and i was the one who orchestrated it all.
anyway, onward to bigger and better things, right? <333
footnote: there is a greater degree of lore of course, but i just wanted to post a simplified version of events. i have no burning desire to continue a war which has long been over - this is the very last time i will ever post anything pertaining to spacehey v napo. it's over. it's done. it's last night's chicken dinner. the only reason this post exists is to serve as a reminder of things that once transpired. let's all move the fuck on with our lives.
