strange journey: not all photos are blued equal

jimenez: we found him!

it's finally time to rescue our sister ship, the elve. for realsies this time.

horkos: I'LL GOBBLE UP THE FUTURE OF THOSE WHO WANT THE PLANET BACK HOW IT WAS!

horkos: I'LL EAT UNTIL I'M FULL! EVEN IF I DISAPPEAR, I WON'T BE GONE FOREVER!

carina is about consumerism/capitalism, huh...

you know, i've seen a lot of stuff about the destruction of the planet in my time. very few have been as straightforwardly damning as this one. a giant pig with delusions of grandeur that wants to eat, eat, eat, and integrates human technology to make itself more powerful, killing the people who made that technology possible... even if you destroy it, it will come back, because it's the face of human greed. it eats even the future, your hopes and dreams of a way to fix things... >_<

climate doomerism is so common nowadays that this one line felt especially true to me.

zelenin: what!? was that still not enough!?

jimenez: ...divine protection's not what it used to be, huh?

ba-ba-ba-ba ba-da-da da *farty trombone noise*

zelenin: ......!

Zelenin disliked that.

zelenin: it seems our technology combined with the angel's protection is guiding us to victory.

zelenin: ...perhaps it's time you stopped acting so tough and faced facts, crewman jimenez.

jimenez: .......!

the girls are fightinnggggggggg

at this point, i spilled some chocolate on the screen and didn't notice, so it's in all of my pictures following ^_^; ummmm... pretend it's set dressing for the topic of the day, gluttony?

horkos: GLUTTONOUS HUMANS! YOU WANT THIS SHIP THAT MUCH?

horkos: I CAN'T BELIEVE IT...! I LOST TO HUMANS IN A FIGHT! I LOST TO HUMANS IN GLUTTONY!

humanity number 1! humanity number 1! all the greatest virtues, all the greatest evils! humanity number 1!

jimenez: no survivors, huh? yeah... i wasn't expecting much, but it's still a damn shame.

jimenez: a lot of those guys were taken out and tortured like zelenin...

RIP all crewmembers of the elve, you all existed purely for zelenin's manpain. we salute thee.

jimenez: the lord of all creation doesn't seem to count for much here.

faith: lost.

jimenez: this graviton radio sure weighs enough...

well, at least we could filch the parts we wanted to get from the elve.

jimenez: wait... is that...!?

> jimenez ran to a corner of the room...

jimenez: haha... hahahaha...! is that you!? is that really you!?

jimenez: check this out, elysia! it's the li'l guy!

jimenez: you know, bugaboo! he got sucked in by horkos!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUGABOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

> jimenez showed you a strange-colored thing.

the protagonist is not as impressed as jimenez and i are.

jimenez: there's nothing left but a demon source, but it's definitely him! it's bugaboo!

jimenez: with the equipment back at the red sprite, we can bring him back good as new!

jimenez: oh, geez... i'm gonna have to teach that dope how to talk again! hahahahaha...!

BUGABOO <33333

with the graviton radio, we are finally able to make contact with command. i don't know if i mentioned this before, but the plot is basically that a strange space-time abnormality appeared in antartica (called the schwarzwelt), and nothing that enters was able to come back. the governments of the world created a joint-nation exploration team to go down there and see what was up. however, the distortion of space-time meant we couldn't make contact with the human world until we got specialized equipment, the graviton radio, from the science-focused ship, the elve.

voice: ...this is the scwarzwelt joint project. we recieved your signal.

joint project: you're alive! you survived!

joint project: where are you!? what's going on!? tell us your situation!

aw, i get the feeling they're relieved that we made it because they really do care. i feel like that's the opposite tone most fiction takes when writing a government body overseeing a suicide mission.

arthur: ship 2, the blue jet, and ship 3, the elve, are destroyed. ship 4, the gigantic, is missing.

hal 9000 updates the joint project on our progress. the progress is bad.

arthur: we have suffered many casualties, investigative commander gore among them.

commander gore q_q i miss youuu

joint project: that's terrible... it sounds like it's practically a miracle we're corresponding at all.

mia: they're really stewing back on earth, huh? we're the ones who're in trouble here...

everyone is suffering...

arthur: operations are possible thanks to the demonicas, but the conditions are unlivable for humans.

you know, i always forget about this... the environments always LOOK perfectly livable and the demons are wandering around perfectly fine, so i forget that everything is fucked up and you'll die if you take off that diving helmet.

arthur: we have learned some things about the appearance and disposition of the schwarzwelt.

arthur: though we dismissed the imagery retrieved by the drones as a malfunction...

arthur: it is composed of structures similar to those found in human society.

joint project: those pictures were real...!?

you kind of get used to it when walking around the dungeons, but, yeah, i guess it IS pretty weird and fucked up that this mysterious black hole is populated entirely with endless grocery stores and snowy city battlefields and shit.

arthur: the biggest limitation on our investigation thus far is the presence of intelligent life.

arthur: we believe them to be 'demons,' creatures of folklore and myth.

joint project: recently, the demons have been emerging from the schwarzwelt and invading nearby continents.

joint project: we don't know what they're after, but they're definitely here!

kato: so they've actually made it to earth...!?

hmm. that's not good.

joint project: the schwarzwelt has completely covered antartica.

it's expanding too? that's also probably not good.

williams: at any rate, it's impossible to continue the investigation as planned.

joint project: you already have our most advanced technology created on our theories on the schwarzwelt.

joint project: there's nothing we can do for you.

jimenez: so we get shit-all for help...!?

zelenin: we'll get nothing from earth...

the people were shocked by his message.

zelenin: but on the other hand...

GET THOSE DIRTY ANGEL-SYMPATHETIC THOUGHTS OUT OF YOUR HEAD RIGHT NOW, YOUNG LADY.

joint project: we haven't abandoned you.

joint project: who knows? we might be able to come up with an escape route... or maybe even a way to destroy [the schwarzwelt]

joint project: best of luck to both of us, eh? this is the joint project, signing out...

my final message: idk. goodbye.

i actually feel really bad for them... both sides were hoping the other would have a solution, but unfortunately everyone's just worse off than they were before we lost contact.

jimenez: we work our asses off to get that graviton radio, finally get ahold of the folks on earth...

jimenez: and our big reward is finding out that earth's going to hell in a handbasket?

zelenin: it does seem to be bad news on top of bad news, doesn't it?

zelenin: no means of escape, no backup... i understand the sinking feeling you must have.

zelenin: but it's too soon to abandon all hope.

ZELENIN. ZELENIN NO!! STEP AWAY FROM THE ABRAHAMIC FAITH. THE FAITH WILL NOT SAVE YOU.

jimenez: whatever, sister. i'm a realist, y'know? i play the cards i'm dealt.

this is why i'm letting you cook this playthrough, jimenez. let's not put any faith into snake oil salesman this time!

> you sense someone's presence...

strange girl: ah, i apologize for the intrusion.

OMG hiiiii!!!!!!! are you here to forcefeed me centipedes again :D?

strange girl: my, my... this is a grand ship. even the ark that withstood the flood couldn't compare.

strange girl: i am louisa ferre. please, call me louisa.

lu... lu-i-cshaaa... ferrrrrr

louisa ferre: i suppose humans brought this danger on themselves, and are hastening to destruction...

louisa ferre: but i am only putting into words the destiny you've carried since you were created.

lousia ferre: there is no cause for concern.

"you were created to be greedy little bastards"

louisa ferre: perhaps you may be able to control where the pendulum stops swinging.

louisa ferre: where do you belong? a steadfast soldier of the law, or an agent of chaos?

look at my name. it's in red, right? of course i'm on your side!

wolf: what would commander gore have said if he were still alive?

hold that thought for a few more plot beats, buddy.

wolf: he'd say, 'we can't run away here! we're humanity's hope... we can't give up until the very end!'

wolf: commander... why'd you have to go and die? we need you most now...

this kind of dialogue makes me wish i was going neutral T_T but i save neutral route for last always! I'M SORRY COMMANDER GORE :'x

kato: anyway, all we can do is our best.

kato: just what our 'best' is... we'll have to give serious though to it.

Kudos: 2
