talking about coil phightings mischaracterization cause it pisses me off

Even if you arent in the phighting phandom you should listen up you could be making these same mistakes 

btw phighting is like my main interest phighting phans oomf me up ok? Ok

but uhhh coil is my favorite character 

like im crazy about him

and his mischaracterization pisses me off! 

so i wanted to like... go through the reasons why... so yall can see how amazing and lovely coil is 🧡🩵

This will also like explain his lore along the way a bit so win win

And its butt but whatever

1. Brains and Brawn

A common media stereotype is that smart people (the brains) lack physical strength, and vise versa, strong people (the brawn) lack intelligence. Coil is a boxer and vigilante, and a big part of his character is him trying to get as strong as he can. Because of this, people would assume he isnt smart. But he is! (Wow hes smart AND hes muscular? Hes perfect😍😍😍😍)

2. Coil is black

(Btw i wanna preface this by saying im white and im just using my brain, please correct me if i get anything wrong in this!)

Coil was the first (and only) character in phighting to originally have a not white model. The in-game region he is from (Playground) also seems to take heavy inspiration from Latin American culture, which is closely tied to Black culture.

Black people in pop culture are commonly depicted as stupid. Unless they have giant glasses and a button-up shirt, youd think theyre dumber than a similarly depicted white character. Coil is harsh, unserious, and a little bitch. Not very "nerdy"

Coil is not the only victim of this within the fandom, with other dark skinned characters (like banhammer) getting similar treatment. 

3. Lore importance 

It's time we address the pink and teal elephants in the room.

Subspace and Medkit's backstories are incredibly similar, even being intertwined, and a big part of their lore is their upbringing, in which the smart are praised and the not so smart are punished. This, combined with them both being scientists, gives us the impression that these guys must be pretty smart!

While being smart is an important part of Coil's character, there are other things in his story that overshadow it. His relationship with his caretaker, his resistance against blackrock, and the whole getting kicked off of a floating island thing.

Subspace and Medkit's intellect is rubbed in your face, whereas coil's isnt. And subtlety wont do for this fandom.

5. "But rosie, how do you KNOW he's smart?"

One of Coil's main goals is getting stronger. He does this by experimenting on himself and his gear, and you probably need a phd to be experimenting on ppl and shit. Tldr hes phd levels of smart.

He also messes with people a lot, always trying to get reactions out of them. This is anither factor into people believing he's dumb, but its actually the contrary! Im no people person (i wish), but you probably need some smarts to figure out exactly what makes people tick.

in summary coil is perfect and cutieful and goated and i am the number 1 coil glazer
