talking about my beloved ttrpg oc syth

ive been meaning to write this post for ages because my character syth is maybe my favorite character in anything and definitely my favorite ttrpg character ive ever played, and songbirds is a very cool ttrpg that i think deserves more attention!

songbirds is a game about people who have come back to life after receiving a gift from the missing and mysterious goddess Love. these gifts also act as the class system in the game, and my character is a moonchild which essentially makes it extra lucky and gives it the ability to always find a secret door.

songbirds can return to life after a very long time dead, which is the case for syth. it was born as the princess of a small coastal kingdom on the brink of collapse, and when it was 14 is was arranged to be married to the young noble of a neighboring kingdom. syth did not struggle with this, their castle was very cold and lonely and they were too young for their marriage to mean anything besides a binding legal agreement between nations. syth had no friends, was privately tutored instead of attending school, and had very little chance to meet anyone its age.

on the night of its wedding, it was kidnapped by a pirate ship for a high ransom. this is also the same night that its parents were killed by the Empire, an invading military force in the songbirds rule. syths kingdom was now absorbed into the Empire's territory, and with no one left alive to pay its ransom, syth stayed on the pirate ship and became an adept sailor, albeit one who didnt know how to swim. this is also where they got its signature scar across its lip, in a workplace accident that was entirely its own fault (was holding a throwing knife an inch from its face right next to the boom of the ship).

when syth was 16, it drowned after being pulled overboard by a terrible storm. a hundred years later it awoke as a songbird, and had to make a new life for itself.

syth's personality can be hard to describe because they are erratic and impulsive. they started the campaign with an 'everyone out for themselves' mindset and only trusted the other songbirds it awoke with. it has both a penchant for jewelry and a love of thievery which can get it into trouble, and it has odd beliefs about the world and how it works from their outdated and subpar tutoring from its childhood. its also just kind of weird in general, so you cant blame all of its strange worldviews on its background. they are slow to warmth and can be hard to communicate with, but is undyingly loyal to those that have earned its trust.

after a year of being a songbird, it lost one of the other two songbirds who came back to life at the same time, both of which took a parental role in syth's life and adjustment to the new world around them. syth took it incredibly hard and found it easy to lash out and while keeping its individualist mindset, became very scared to lose the other songbirds in its party.

syth now has self actualized and started asking themselves big, tough questions about who it wants to be and what it wants its future to look like, which led to them choosing to use it/any pronouns and be kind of emo. 'syth' is also a shortening of its birth name forsythia, which they havent gone by since its princess days.

i draw syth lots and lots but i dont have access to a scanner currently, so here are just a few digital drawings of it (unless they dont upload). thank you very much if you read this whole thing!!! i will definitely have more blogs about syth because they are my beloved little cutesiepoops
