Technology isn't real, dude

Would someone like to explain to me HOW an old Samsung A25 with a broken LCD screen is capable of murdering a brand new Lenovo 2-n-1 just by trying to connect to the USB port? Because...

I mean, all I want to do is get my files off my old phone, just when I think I finally found a solution involving an old USB keyboard and my laptop's USB-A port, I plug my phone in to aee of a connection will be established and BOOM. Laptop shorts out and won't even respond to me holding down the power button. But is that even what happened. I didn't hear a spark or smell any smoke.

I guess I should be furious right now, but I'm actually just stunned. And a little upset, but mostly stunned. The phone isn't even charged. I unplugged it from the charger before I plugged it into the USB port. The phone should NOT have been capable of doing this. If my laptop doesn't come back to life on its own, how am I even going to explain this to Asurion?

Edit: Okay so USB-A ports don't even pull power in from devices, they push it out. Further meaning that the Samsung A25 should NOT have been capable of shorting the motherboard just by plugging into the port. I have never been left so at a loss before.
