The Birds (1963) (review/rant)

OMG! Okay, so I totally underestimated this film?? It's older so I assumed it would be cheesy or that I wouldn't find it very scary because it doesn't really look it from the cover of the DVD. But, boy I was so wrong. Sure, it's old fashioned in its editing and the plot is one more common for the time (starts with a sort of love story) but that doesn't really take away from the horror aspect of it at all.

The frightening scenes are really emotionally horrifying. I especially feel this when all of the townspeople begin to fear the birds and have to go into hiding. The acting and writing are very good and when watching I could physically feel this sense of hopelessness within the characters. Honestly, it gets very apocalyptic towards the middle/end and the actual style of horror is quite jarring. There were even a few scenes where I had took look away (I can handle gore, the last film I watched was Midsommar and I was less phased) probably just because of the intense contrast between a light 60s atmosphere and the characters getting absolutely mutilated by the birds.

definitely a 9/10, surprisingly terrifying film!

if anyone has seen the film n has thoughts, movie recommendations or literally anything else I would love to yap about it :-D
