The Boys is a bad and inconsistent story

Was speaking to someone on a blog about why I don't like shows.

In my entire life, I (no joke) finished 2 completed shows, besides the one who I saw a season but dropped another one I didn't watch (X Men 97, Sandman, Avatar live action).

Those are Breaking Bad and The Boys.

Breaking Bad took me 3 years to finish cuz I started watching it in 2022, saw the first 3 seasons and took a long hiatus cuz I used to watch it on netflix, but we lost access to it as the person who shared her account with us didn't do that anymore so yea.And I finished the show in 2025.I liked it.

Then there's The Boys...

I watched it mainly cuz my 2 other friends watched it.

And I have mixed feelings about it.

First 3 seasons were pretty cool, but season 4 and 5 feel insanely unnecesarry.

Season 1 starts off strong.Superheroes (also known as supes) are normal humans who take a chemical called Compound V who can awaken powers.They are corrupt and basically free criminals who can do whatever they want cuz they're unstoppable.We're introduced to Hughie who suffers after A Train (member of The Seven) RUNS OVER HIS GF, DESTROYING HER.After a failed legal battle, he meets Billy Butcher, an ex CIA agent who takes him under his mantle.Then he reassembles The Boys, a CIA funded team (made of Billy, Frenchie and Mother's Milk who broke up after Grace Mallory's nephews were killed by Lamplighter) whose mission is to take down Vought and Homelander.Each episode is just them doing shit that progresses their objective while heroes do evil shit (flight 37, A Train killing his gf via a drug overdose).After Endgame, it came as a fresh take on heroes, being something unusual at that time (despite considering it weird how ALMOST EVERY hero in the show is evil, with the sole exceptions of Starlight and maybe Bombsight)

Season 2 is the same shit but they make fun of pop culture things and have a new villain (also my fav season).Oh and also Billy's wife (aka the reason he hates superheroes, as Homelander raped her) is alive and raises the first naturally born superhero.

Then season 3... THEY FINALLY HAVE SOMEONE CAPABLE OF TAKING DOWN HOMELANDER.WE ARE SO CLOSE INTO THAT... but nope.Billy "Cuck" Butcher decides that Ryan (his wife's ILLEGITIMATE SON RESULTED IN RAPE, and also the reason that his wife dissapeared from his life and oh, he also KILLED HER) doesn't deserve to die at the hands of Soldier Boy.So he says "fuck it" and in the end, he fights Soldier Boy, assisted by the other members of The Boys, Starlight, Maeve and FUCKING HOMELANDER.The episode ends with Maeve falling down with Soldier Boy, tanking a nuclear blast to the face.Soldier Boy is returned to cryo sleep and Maeve somehow survives and just loses her powers (as if she couldn't die from falling idk how many stories tall since she lost her powers mid falling).

The entirety of season 4 and 5 are just the producers doing whatever they want, filming the goriest kills and literally not moving the plot.

They literally could've had Homelander die in season 3 and focus season 4 and 5 to the boys trying to take down vought and either succeeding or not.

I feel like the only reason I hate it is because it's such a dumb decision, not only insanely out of character for Butcher but it's also nothing more than a cheap reason to keep making more seasons, just so they can make more money.

And I hate Prime for this.The Boys was somewhat good and was pretty consistent, just for a last second change to keep up the game.

Season 4 was a mess

and season 5 was a pile of shit

NOTHING BUT FILLER

And the ending is incomplete

not only that Vought is still active and can make new superheroes, but it also left insane questions that were never answered (what happened to soldier boy, what was the point of the folks from Gen V appearing just to hide in the woods, how did Ryan lost his powers despite being a natural born supe, not injected with Comp V, WHY DID MM took him, as if Ryan isn't the nephew of the man who killed members of his family, WHY DID HUGHIE NAME HIS UNBORN CHILD AFTER HIS FIRST GF).

Overall, The Boys is an insanely inconsistent show, has terrible characters, wasted ones and is just a gore fest with no story.Just watch the first 3 seasons and you should be good (OR NOT AT ALL).

Ik the comic story is just Garth Ennis' edgeslop adventure where he shits on superheroes, but the show had more potential than the comic.
