I just discovered the Gia Phone, being developed by an engineering student in California! It has all the smartphone features with a more 2000s/retro/vintage design. If you sign up for the waitlist, you can fill out a survey that asks you simple questions about your preferences.
This phone is still in development and according to the creator of this phone, her current estimate is late-2027 to early-2028 (I know, it's a while away 😭)
Here are some really cool features that make it different from the older retro phones that can't support modern software:
- You can call and text with 4G/5G plus WiFi and Bluetooth! (The Bluetooth is a neat touch especially because my cochlear implants operate on Bluetooth to connect to my current phone).
- You can do video chatting (I'm assuming that includes FaceTime)!
- GPS tracking!
- A camera that has options for the quality (ex., 2000s feel or more modern feel)
- Spotify!
- Uber/Ride share!
According to the survey, you can choose two options to heavily restrict your app usage or completely open the phone to whatever apps you want. This is still being developed, so the final details might change.
If you're skeptical (which is okay, I was too!), you can check out the official TikTok @Gia Phone account! The creator shares updates and encourages people to ask questions! Here's the link: Gia Phone! BTW, the waitlist only requires your email.
What do you think? Would you want a modern smartphone with a 2000s aesthetic, or do you prefer the phones we have today?

I had a smartphone like this in 2015-2016 and at the time I liked the buttons.
But i'd get it for the keyboard. If you're just uding it for physical buttons for a game you'd be better off getting a dedicated bluetooth controller.
It sounds like it would have modern features like 5g and 4g I dont see a reason not to get it. But if you game alot idk if it's the best for that or not, its more of an aestetic thing for typing.
