The same mistake will cost us another 21 years of hell.

Well, this year has been reallly chaotic, especially because of the presidential elections, and I have to admit that I’m pretty worried about who’s going to win. This week, while talking about who everyone was going to vote for, a woman literally called me an antifascist as if it were an insult, and I was shocked because I thought everyone in my friend group was antifascist too.

It’s no secret that I don’t support the current candidate, Flávio Bolsonaro, who claims to be on the “right,” but we all know that he isn’t. The lunatics who call themselves his supporters are making life a living hell for students at federal universities because they firmly believe that there is some kind of brainwashing going on, where we are supposedly forced to vote for a candidate we don’t support.

After the first round, students at Fluminense Federal University (UFF) held a protest against the candidate. After that, several universities and federal institutes joined in as well, including mine. But, as everything involving these people seems to get complicated and criminal, a research building was simply burned down, destroying more than 20 years of research, and they blamed it on a faulty air-conditioning connection. Then another university was burned down, and I have to ask: was that a faulty connection too?

Last week, we held a protest in the city where my college is located, and a motorcyclist actually drove toward the demonstrators because he didn’t support our candidate, putting teenagers and children at risk of being hit.

I have to admit that what shocks me the most is that he is clearly planning an attempted coup, and no one seems to see it. And do you know what’s even worse? Unlike his father, who tried to do the same thing, he is going to succeed...

We’re heading back to the polls tomorrow (Sunday, October 25), but there are still protests happening today. I hope that this time, people won’t threaten me when I refuse to take their leaflets.

I’ll be back tomorrow night with updates.
