the thing about using flip phones to detox from social media/phones

sometimes it really boggles my mind to think about how flip phones are thought of as this ultimate way to detox yourself from social media and tech, while also being allowed to be used for essential apps that we basically need, or are required, to use--alongside to indulge yourself but in small doses. flip phones as this concept really feels like some kind of enlightenment for people during times phones and social media actively encourages an addiction to them. yet this is so unpromising due to flip phones generally being higher maintenance than a regular phone, since they can't catch up to updates for functional purposes as well as smart phones, and will ultimately need to be replaced sooner, thus more, than a smart phone (so like, less than 5 years). even depending on the flip phone, some essential apps (like maps or evenΒ making and receiving emails) won't work too well/is inaccessible anyways...

i think while flip phones CAN do some part in discouraging the use of social media--since one of the functions that makes it addictive is how easy it is to scroll, and flip phones make that harder--i also think many people exaggerate how effective and "friendly" for detoxing they are. in fact you could argue flip phones are kind of wasteful? and its lack of functionality & accessibility encourages consumption more (disregarding that the overall consumption culture around smart phones, well mainly iphones, is very hostile)? so really relying on the flip phone is kind of unrealistic, but most importantly, i feel possessing one doesn't even fully address a phone/social media addiction as directly as being disciplined with the smart phone you have *now* does. anddd its less expensive than buying a flip phone that actually functions (while still having the risk of not having essential apps, or it not working too well)Β

this isnt me hating on flip phones! love those little things. im not even "against" owning one. but for people to pass around the idea to own one to detox yourself from tech or social media without hardly ever considering the use of flip phones in the long run seems to be........ not the greatest idea? not very wise as the choice to use a flip phone is constantly presented to be. :T

this was bulletin material but i made it a blog since i am now questioning the length of writing it takes to be considered a bulletin vs a blog if *this* was originally suppose to be a bulletin. i have a tendency to ramble on, i suppose.... (but hey, i've seen and made even longer bulletins than this!) also, please excuse my poor grammar im kind of Tired right now.
