The Thread - willlow full review

I was so excited for this album to come out as willows last two projects have been absolute bangers and this one isn’t an exception to that. This album shows that Willow is continuously improving and getting better and this album showcased even more talent from her. It explores down to earth themes and i recommend anyone reading this should listen right now !!! 

She’s my religion - soft and graceful vocal almost like willow is floating  around her own song. The deep drums and rhythm of the song makes the song feel like it’s almost being performed in front of me. The song genuinely uses such simple instruments and patterns but still feels complex. Then when you get to the lyrics it’s like an idolization of this women and the way willow talks about her reminds me of ancient girl off of her project empathogen and I loved that song so this being a more evolved version of that I can’t give it anything less then a ten!!! 10/10 great start to the album 

The thread - woah it has the same name as the album 😳😳😳😳!! But in all seriousness I feel like this song is a play on the invisible string theory. in this song Willow is talking about how she feels like someone is linked with her this person follows in her footsteps and is forever linked to her. They hold her breath, they beat her heart Willow and this person is one and the same. It’s an interesting take on the soulmate troupe that I love especially how Willow performs this song I love it so much 8/10

Unconditional - as the title suggest this song is about unconditional love. Willow is saying no matter what she wants to love this person unconditionally. The tempo and speed of the song is faster than the songs before it and it’s more like the album is picking up its pace right here. When I hear the guitar it reminds me of Mei semones math rock style and was a lot more complex then we usually get from Willow but it was executed well. 7/10 pretty good but nothing crazy

Talk on the hill - The higher pitched vocals caught me completely off guard and the background vocals like immersed me into the album a lil more. If I was to visualize this song I would visualize it as being taken into another dimension or being outside on a warm windy sunny day. This song has such an uplifting vibe and almost forces you to pay attention to all the different elements it screams I’m here and I love it. 8/10 

Hell to pay - this song slows down and its a lot more experimental and deconstructed. It feels like the song was being made as we were listening sudden verses suddenly switches that pop in then pop out and while I like the switch up I don’t think it really got executed well it seems like a lil to much and while it kinda goes well together it leaves a lot to be desired compared to the rest of these amazing songs. 6/10

Shrink to Fantasy - this song is Willow standing up for herself saying she is her own person and not just a golden child or just a fantasy. She’s a real person with multiple ways to fly and grow. This song was great and resonated a lot with me and I feel like the overall vibe was great and the breakdown in the middle of the song into building it back up was great 8/10

Crush on eternity - first offf oh my god Mei semones and Willow on a project is amazing I’ve been honestly waiting for this since they posted photos hanging together and I’m so happy we finally get it . But back to the songggg the guitar is so heavily influenced by Mei’s style and it flows so well. Both of their vocals bounce off of each other really well they are obviously distinct but complement each other. So when it came bouncing between the two of them it felt seamless and then the riff going into the chorus seems like an explosion bouncing out from the track and everything spills into it and it’s so amazing. This song is a 10/10

Tall baby - this song is simple and melodic but it holds a lot of weight in it. Willow is just an older child trying to transition into a womanly role in life and it’s honestly such a refreshing thought to think about. This combined with the distressed feeling ending to the end where it feels like she has a million thoughts about it running around makes for a strong song about maturity and the multiple thoughts u may have about it. 8/10

The Present moment - it has like a funky guitar and background and the bouncing between keys in the keyboard adds an element to the song that’s strong and unique and again willows powerful vocals bring it all together . The second half of this album has a more uplifting feel and I couldn’t help but move around listening to not only this song but the whole second half of this album. These songs genuinely take you out of where you are and put you into the world Willow envisions. I will be rating this a 8/10 cause it’s strong and the message to live in the present and that your future is always uncertain is powerful!

Bone collector - this song is about Willow taking everything that people take for granted and turning it into something new. But the background vocals do start to get repetitive at this point cause it kinda does the same thing every other song has done but even with that the song sounds almost completely different then the rest of the album. This is a great ending to an album in my opinion her talking about how everything that people have let go is basically n influence to her is a strong and nice ending to this amazing album 7/10. 

Overall this album is a strong 8/10
