I love too hard, I care too much, and honestly? It’s exhausting.
If you are a teenage girl reading this, you probably know exactly what I mean. We live in a world that tells us to be cool, detached, and "nonchalant." But some of us missed that memo entirely. Instead, we are out here feeling absolutely everything at a volume of 100.
If you are someone who constantly over-extends, over-gives, and over-loaves (yes, "loaving"β€”pouring out love until there is nothing left), here is what it really looks like behind the scenesβ€”and how we can start protecting our own peace.

The Reality of Loving Too Loud
When you care deeply, your world is incredibly vibrant, but it is also fragile. You aren’t just a friend or a partner; you are an unpaid therapist, a cheerleader, and a human safety net.
You dissect every single text message, shift in tone, or left-on-read notification. You constantly modify your own opinions, schedules, and comfort just to make sure everyone else is happy. You absorb other people's stress, sadness, and anger until your own chest feels heavy.
You give 110% to people who are barely giving you 20%. You stay up until 3:00 AM fixing crises that aren't yours to fix, hoping that if you love them well enough, they will finally feel whole. But what about you?
The Crash: Running on Empty
The problem with giving pieces of yourself away to keep everyone else warm is that eventually, you freeze.
You start feeling resentful. You wonder why nobody notices when your energy shifts, or why nobody asks how you are doing with the same intensity. It feels lonely to realize that your capacity to care is miles ahead of the people around you. You start to think something is wrong with you for caring this much.
Rewriting the Rules: How to Keep Your Big Heart Safe
Having a big heart is not a flaw. In a world that can be incredibly cold, your ability to love and care deeply is actually your superpower. But even superheroes need a shield.
First, learn to match their energy. Stop running marathons for people who won't even walk across the street for you, and pay attention to who pours back into your cup.
Remember that "no" is a full sentence. You do not need a twenty-minute excuse to protect your peace. If you don't have the emotional bandwidth to hold space for someone else's drama today, it is completely okay to say so.
Start investing that love back into yourself. Take all that fierce, protective, nurturing love you give to others and turn it inward. Cancel plans, read a book, do your skincare routine, or just lie in bed and listen to music. You deserve your own care.
Finally, accept people as they are. Stop trying to fix people or love them into better versions of themselves. Love them for who they are right now, or let them go.
To the Girl Reading This...
Please don't let a bad experience, a toxic friendship, or a careless boy turn your heart to stone. The world needs people who care.
But remember: you cannot pour from an empty cup. Loving yourself first isn't selfish; it is the only way you can keep loving the world without losing yourself in the process.
