Top 3 unforgettable trends... Until their expiration date hit

It’s pretty transparent how certain movies, shows, and adaptations packed with pop culture references feel engineered to appeal to younger audiences, capitalizing on current trends with the full mental force of 40-something writers who lack a sense of humor... I honestly believe a quarter of Taylor Swift's net worth comes from every single time her name slips from the lips of a teen movie protagonist. Can I give an example? Grace from Scream Queens sings one of her songs within the first 20 minutes of the first episode of Scream Queens (is that just a flex of the budget the crew had to pay for copyright fees?)

That being said, I have strong opinions on trends that don’t even look current when you watch them at least five years later... Imagine if they were referenced in a modern movie that you were only allowed to watch in 2036? Based on that idea, here are the culprits (let me know if I'm forgetting anyone) for all the trends that already feel older than they actually are

- Area 51
uhh I watched a documentary explaining the origins of this craze and just like any other internet milestone, it all comes down to a bloke who scheduled a meetup at Area 51 because - without evidence - he assumed there were aliens there that needed to be exposed to the world. And in a highly embarrassing fashion he gathered a massive crowd there just for them to fail at getting inside (truly high-IQ behavior)
Around the same time, adult movies involving aliens started popping up:cthulhu: I wonder what the context behind those was? Back then before people found out that Teratophilia was a thing, were they projecting their wildest dreams onto slimy aliens? Sorry but Xenomorph XX121 doesn't seem to follow many conventionally attractive concepts, not even through its mating dance. Outdated.

- Mustache prints (on clothes, mugs, wallpapers, ETC.)
Maybe it was an inside joke making fun of adults, I guess—you know, using grown-up elements to just goof around. Tattooing a mustache on your finger isn't exactly enough to make you look eloquent, let alone having an actual mustache. To be honest, I think this trend would be completely visual, not spoken: picture someone wearing a glasses-and-mustache t-shirt + a beanie in the middle of summer + some AI-printed outfit, I don't know. It just doesn't feel right, same as the man bun

- Hoverboards
Thanks to this masterpiece, the price of a mini-go-kart dropped for like a week or two. I don't live in some upscale neighborhood full of rich kids, but I know that back in 2019, there were parents giving into their kids' whims and buying an electric skateboard that, in the end, just isn't fun—or at least, it doesn't look like it.
Funny enough, trends involving modes of transportation—like Heelys, for example—usually make a comeback after a few years because of people who initially use them out of necessity, until they blow up again. I wish BMX got as much hype as Hoverboards did after they dropped. The people in Copenhagen are the wise ones; they have more bikes than people

Hopefully a better trend arise. I'm tired of this slop
