Tritium Gas

I just found out about these tritium vials, and they’re so cool. I knew about them in watches, but I didn’t know you could just buy the little tubes by themselves and put them into tiny containers.

    They look radioactive because, well, they are. When a tritium atom decays, it releases a   little tiny bit of energy. From what I understand, they’re not that big of a deal as long as you don’t break the tube open. Even if one does break, it doesn’t seem insanely dangerous, but obviously it’s still radioactive material, so you wouldn’t want to mess around with it.

    The coolest part is that they just glow constantly for years. They can glow for something like 15 years and then slowly get dimmer over time. That is so cool. I just wish they weren’t so expensive. They're not very big.
