Weekly Blog Post #1

Hey there!

Welcome to my first weekly blog post. I've never really done these before as I mainly just post to my socials with whatever, whenever, but I'd like to do something different here as it feels like a much more comfortable environment to do these sorts of things, so I guess I'll just get into it.

The main premise of these weekly blog posts is really just to talk about what I've been up to in general, I was gonna mainly have it focus on my works, but I'd like to also just talk about random stuff that I've found interest in lately, so you'll see some of that here too.

The LevenChat Animations

You've probably seen the first one I posted which was Larping the Rooms by The Larping Tombstone. If you haven't though, take a look here!

I had posted another one on my TikTok that was Twins at the Carousels, but I hadn't posted it here. It followed the same character, McLorin, and the same story that's somewhat being displayed here, although it gets displayed better within the other animation.
For a bit of info on the animation itself, the character is McLorin from the game Garn47, the character itself doesn't actually have much lore as of currently so all the lore that's shown here is instead canon to my fangame, LevenChat.
I wasn't expecting to make more than one animation, but I absolutely loved the song, so I knew I just had to. I had also found it a lot more fun this time around as I had easier shapes to animate along with half of it being done in FL Studio's ZGameEditor (something I LOVE using).
I'm not sure how many more fan works I'll be doing for now since I'd like to put a lot more focus on to my game, Doohickeyotron, which is something else I'd like to talk about!

Doohickeyotron Dev Update - The Console

The Console's been something I've been meaning to work on for months now. It's one of the core aspects of how both the game works gameplay-wise, but also narratively. I'd explain more on that side of things, but I'd be spoiling too much then. > u •

Something I would like to talk about with the Console however is the puzzles!

The puzzle aspect of the game is something I've been wanting to do from the start. It had mainly began with the idea of simple door opening mechanics through codes, but I decided to expand upon it a little when working on the Property Crank, as I had realised the possibilities of using a signal-based system with the antenna.

The main concept works a bit like this:

The main premise is that a code is entered into the console, that code then emits a signal from the Doohickeyotron, which then if connects to the specific connector, will activate whatever it's connected to.

It's a pretty rough concept so far, but I think with a bit of tweaking, it's something that can work really well. My main concern right now is applying it to levels, as I feel like that's where I'm gonna struggle.

Beside that though, here's a little look into how this currently works in-game! It needs a LOT of polishing, but I really like the structure of it so far!

The song in the video comes from the DONKS OST, one of the main inspirations for this game!

I've also added a couple other small changes like lighting features. I'd show off the new level designs, but I was doing this in the test room so I wasn't able to, sorry! \/(^_^)\/

Well, now that all the main stuff is out of the way, here's a couple other misc things that I've been up to.

The Misc Part Where I Talk About Other Things That Are Going On

Mini Review of The Odyssey

This was something I watched on Friday and I actually quite enjoyed it! I wasn't really sure what it was fully about as I hadn't taken much of a look into it, but I was invited and I thought "Eh, I'm not gonna be doing much else today." so I went along and actually had a great time!

I'm not one for 3-ish hour long films as I usually need to watch them in sessions, but I felt really interested in Odysseus' story and how it was portrayed in the film. I mainly found the first 20 or so minutes a bit of a drag but I can't blame them, it's integral for the build up and context, and I don't just wanna leave that early in or I wouldn't have gotten any of it!

I really enjoyed a lot of the performances by the actors too, Matt Damon KILLED it as Odysseus along with Robert Pattinson who did a great job with Antinous being both an intimidating character, but overall a cocky and cowardice one.

I won't go too in detail on everything as it is a 3 hour long film after all, but I did love the designs of all the creatures and beasts in the film along with their sound design. It was definitely a loud film, but the good kinda loud where it actually adds on to the tension and less feels like just noise.

Overall, I'd say abt an 8/10.

Song of the Week

This blog's song of the week goes to ESC4P3 from Die of Death.

Had a lot of fun with the new Die of Death update and this skin was one of my favourite parts, I absolutely love the design and the theme is so funky and mechanical!

Anyways, that's about it from me this week, hope you all had fun reading!
