Weird dream (TW: mention of death¿)

This was something I had already posted on Napo.space but I decided to move it, just in case I become 100% inactive on the other site. :)

I was in a field, a wide open one. The wind was strong enough to toss my hair around, yet somehow it didn't bother me. In the distance, I could see a house like the one in the photo, but much larger, almost like a mansion, and painted pink. It reminded me of the Pink Palace from Coraline.

I was with my partner, and beside us stood a white horse. It had two braids woven into its mane and what looked like a very short fringe (Again, like the on in the picture but with the braids & fringe, etc.). I stroked it gently, and it seemed unwilling to leave my side. Whenever I tried to stand up, it would nudge me with its muzzle so I would stay seated and keep petting it.

After a while, another person arrived. I couldn't tell whether they were a man or a woman, though I assumed they were a man. That was simply the impression I got, despite never seeing any part of their body or hearing their voice. They asked me what I was doing there, how I had found the horse, and whether I knew the house. I don't remember what I answered, but we spoke for a while about the horse and about how I felt having it as company.

Eventually, the three of us, my partner, this stranger, and I, stood up and began walking somewhere else because they had something "important" to tell me. The moment we turned around, we were suddenly in the backyard of my childhood home, the one I lived in until I was seven years old.

As we walked through the yard, the stranger told me how strange it was that I was there. The reason they had asked all those questions, they explained, was because I had actually been dead for a very long time. My family and I, they said, had died years ago in some bizarre accident that left us buried beneath a massive iron structure.

The revelation surprised me, but I laughed. I told them it was strange because I had no memory of anything like that happening. Maybe, I suggested, it was some kind of miracle that I was still there in the flesh.

A few minutes later, another person joined us. This time it was a woman. Together, they asked if I wanted to see the bodies. Curiosity got the better of me, so I said yes, and the four of us went down to see what had become of them.

They looked strange. Their skin resembled leather, stretched tight and stained a brownish color, like those old photographs of mummified Buddhist monks that used to circulate online. We approached them and laughed at how bizarre the situation was, and at how strange the bodies looked. At one point, the others even began slicing away the little flesh that remained on them as though they were carving a cured ham.

After talking for a while longer, we left, climbing over the remnants of the iron structure that sealed the pit where the bodies lay, like a giant tomb.

When we finally reached the surface, we started speculating that perhaps the person buried down there wasn't actually me. Maybe there had been some mistake. Perhaps my family had died, but I had survived because I happened to be somewhere else at the time, and the body below belonged to another little girl. We laughed at the idea.

Then we walked down a corridor that led out to the sidewalk, talking about how wonderful it is to be alive. The moment we stepped through the gate, I woke up.

...How strange.
